Iphone 3g 3.1.3 jailbreak?

hello im new and i have been searching the web for guides to JB my iphone 3g with FW 3.1.3. Is there a how to guide on here. I tried using redsn0w but it cant read the ipsw file i downloaded (3.1.3). Also looking to unlock this iphone.

Or should i update to 4.2.1?
My current Modem firmware 5.12.01 and my bootloader is 5.9 via f0recast.

You can upgrade to 4.1 but using custom firmware to preserve your bb for unlock.

When you are at 3.1.3, you can use spirit jailbreak or run redsn0w 0.9.4 but you browse to stock 3.1.2 fw.

ok but when i try to find a older redsn0w to download it ends up being a newer version (9.6.).

As mentioned above, just use Spirit. Way easier, no custom firmware to make, don't even need to restore, just click and it's done.

If you use Spirit, since most itunes have been updated past 9.1, you need to download BlackBreeze or Spirit 9.1 fix.

ok i just download redsn0w 9.4. from a link you (iyeow) posted in another thread. Even with 9.4 i still need a custom fw?

I looked up the spirit jb and says i need iTunes 9 or earlier. i have the newest. hmm this seems difficult, i just jb my other 3g with 4.1.2 witch i found easy to do.

You don't need a custom firmware when using redsn0w to jailbreak your 3.1.3, just point to stock 3.1.2 firmware.

Im trying out the JB on redsn0w 9.4 right now.

If you have vista or win 7 , set redsn0w in xp sp2 compatibility mode.

I have win 7. Didn't change anything just ran redsn0w and browsed the 3.1.2 file and it has seem to work, but cydia has a problem loading but i think its do to my week WiFi signal. I'm still testing.

ok cydia works, just installed fuzzyband, but it ask me to upgrade to 5.13.04 baseband from my current 5.12.01. should i upgrade or just install ultrasn0w first.

Both basebands can be unlocked by Ultrasn0w, you don't need to use Fuzzyband. You must have a bootloader of 5.0.8 for fuzzyband to load correctly which is good as there aren't many 3g iphones that can downgrade the baseband.

My current bootloader is 5.9 according to f0recast. So am i out of luck for the unlock? Under unlockable it says upgra (ultrasn0w)?

Don't mess up your Baseband, your bb is unlockable by Ultrasnow. If you mess it up , then you have to install ipad bb to unlock and thus breaks your gps.

Just install Ultrasnow to unlock.

just installed ultrasn0w and i think i messed up the phone its stuck on the spinning circle.

Run redsnow, browse to stock 4.1 ipsw which you have to download from here iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From
Choose the last option : pwned dfu mode
Once you are in pwned dfu mode, screen is black and a message in redsnow will say dfu done.
Now run iTunes : shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.1 , be careful not to choose the stock firmware which will update your bb.
Update cydia and install Ultrasnow to unlock
