iphone 3gs ios 4.2.1 to 5.0 unlocked

I'm currently on a iphone 3gs, old bootroom ios 4.2.1, ultrasnow unlocked for tmobile.

I'm looking at upgrading to 5.0 wanted to check if these were the right steps before messing up the phone.

1- use redsnow, create custom ipsw so BB is preserved

2- put the phone into DFU mode, shift restore in itunes

3- use redsnow again to jail break

4- re install ultrasnow for the unlock

am i missing anything?

No, you can't restore to iOS 5.0. Apple is only signing 5.0.1 so you are better off not to upgrade.

Ultrasnow doesn't support iOS 5.0.1 even if you have an unlockable bb. You have to wait for updated version. Current version is still 1.2.4 compatible up to 5.0. So don't update, you will lose your unlock.

Btw, what is your bb ?

That is good, just stay away from stock firmware, you don't want to update the bb and end up using ipad bb which breaks your gps.
