upgrading ios from phone on a jailbroken device

hello, I would like to know if i can upgrade to ios 5.0.1 from my phone which is jailbroken? i wont mind if i loose the jailbreak but i dont want to end up bricking my phone

Update itunes to the latest.
Download 5.0.1 firmware from google iclarified iphone firmware onto desktop.
Run itunes : shift + restore to the downloaded firmware.
That 's it.

Thanks, but all i wanted to know is can i upgrade it on the phone directly, rather than downloading a 750 mb file.

Yes, it will be a tethered jailbreak. Are you at 5.0 now ?

as i understood it, JB phones cant do the OTA update.

Yes it does work, so be wary not to hit the software update button in IOS 5 if you care about having untethered jailbreak.
