Can I speed up my 3G on iOS4?
Are there any new developments or other options to speed up my 3G on 4.2.1, iPad BB?

If you haven't done so already, try:
1) Removing unused language packs
2) Disabling native multitasking and wallpaper (Cydia tweaks or restore and rejb w/ custom fw w/ disabled options)
3) *Only if you know what you're doing...* disabling safe launch daemons

Install toggle and as said above turn off wallpaper and multitasking. Go to setting and turn off all options for spotlight. Install nospot to remove the spotlight page. Then, give up with 4.2.1 and downgrade to 3.1.3.

+1.
If all of the above doesn't give you the performance you want, it's best just to downgrade to 3.1.x or get a 3GS.

Really, just save your time and go back 3.1.3, then Jailbreak with Spirit. The 3g is Ok with 4.x when it's freshly installed, but it soon gets laggy and horrible to use.

Can I go back to 3.1.3? I'm on the iPad BB and 4.2.1. If so, can you give me some detailed instructions to do so?

id suggest like the others, downgrade to 3.1.3. but, you can kind of 'overclock' by renaming this file with .bak at the end of it or something so the phone won't recognize it:
/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle/com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist
i use ifunbox to access files on the iphone. and i say rename because that option sucks the life out of the battery but does seem to be faster so you may want to change it back. iFunBox_0.7.224.86.zip

Steps to downgrade to 3.1.3:
1) download stock 3.1.3
2) download TinyUmbrella
3) open iTunes
4) hold shift, click restore
5) choose stock 3.1.3 ipsw
6) restore will finish, you'll get error 1015
7) open TU, click "exit recovery" (not fix recovery)
8) phone will reboot and take you to emergency call screen
9) you are now on 3.1.3

Yes your baseband will not change. You will still be able to unlock.

OK, I downgraded to 3.1.3. What do I use to jailbreak it? The links on iClarified for RedSn0w jailbreak of 3.1.3 don't work. Where can I download the right one or can I use a current version of Red Sn0w? Can someone help me out with this?

Redsn0w 0.9.4. Use a 3.1.2 ipsw instead of 3.1.3. It'll work the same for a device on 3.1.3. Redsn0w only recognizes 3.1.2.

No you can leave it on 3.1.3. You only have to plug the 3.1.2 ipsw file into redsn0w for it to proceed.

OK, I tried jailbreaking with Redsn0w 9.6rc8 and it's not working. After plugging in the 3.1.2 software when it asks for it, and after processing it says" Unable to recognize specified IPSW. Just for fun I tried the 3.1.3 and it gave the same message.
Can you help me out with some more instructions?
What version of Redsn0w should I be using, or does it matter?

Is there some reason that I've missed why your not trying with Spirit?
