Iphone 3GS restoring errors? Need help
Hi,
My iphone 3gs was already jailbroken and unlocked. Baseband 5.14.3. I reset the phone by selecting erase data and reset setting on iphone. Phone was stuck on apple logo. I put into a recovery mode to restore it custom 4.2.1 but I am getting errors first it was unable to restore 3194.
I did the following
Quit iTunes
Locate your hosts file, in Mac OS X this is /etc/hosts and in Windows this is c
windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file with Administrator privileges
Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file:
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Connect your iPhone to the computer
Launch iTunes
Put the iPhone/iPad/iPod into DFU mode by turning the phone off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode
Use the iTunes Restore feature as usual with the iOS device
But now I am getting error iphone could not be restored A unknown error occurred(21)
I am not able to go past this one. Please help.
Another question is that is it possible to upgrade to os5 and keep jailbroken and unlock?
Thanks

You need to know if you have any blob saved or go delete the added line and restore to custom firmware of 4.1 .
It seems to me you need to unlock with ipad bb as 05.14 is not unlockable

Found out yesterday that 3194 error means that your trying to have Apple sign that IOS, they will not, Itunes is checking with Apple servers that will kick it out and not allow you to go further
You have to use SSH blobs from CYdia and have it pointed to Cydia with tiny umbrella
I tried this but I did not have saved SSH blobs so I had to upgrade

I deleted the line I added earlier in the host file. Now it is telling me that not a compatible firmware. I disabled the internet and tried restoring again and it came back saying that it is unable to connect apple servers.
I am trying to check the SHSH with Tiny Umbrella but there I am getting message saying Tinyumbrella's TSS server is not running.
Anything else I can do?
I need the unlock otherwise phone is useless for me. What happens if I use the older version of itunes?
Thanks
Just to update baseband of this phone is 5.13.04

use recboot instead of tiny umbrella with the iphone in recovery. run "exit.bat", it seems to work better than running from the actual exe.

You have to put iphone into pwned dfu mode first, not a normal dfu.

i think the software is on there it's just itunes doesnt want you having that custom stuff. is it in recovery mode right now? if so, use the tiny umbrella which everyone on here always suggests like its the gold standard, but i have used recboot which ive attached, use the exit. bat if you decide this method. but if you just get a boot loop without restore the poster before me.RecBoot.zip also read How To Fix iTunes Errors (Updated)
