iphone 4 stuck in recovery, wont upgrade to 5.0
so my phone, running on 4.2.8, crashed.it was jailbroken and has been for about three or four months, since i bought it and i used jailbreakme. it wen into recovery mode i guess. it wont do anything except show the apple logo and then the circle loading thing. if i plug it into my computer (windows) it shows up in itunes as an ipone in recovery but when i click restore it loads for a minute then says extracting software, then when it finishes, it says "the iphone "iphone" cannot be restored at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or is temp. unavailable"
im stumped. i really need this fixed though so i would really appreciate any info anyone has that could help get it fixed. thanks,
kenny

You need to go into the advanced settings in Tinyumbrella and uncheck one of the settings. Follow this link for detailed instructions.

Your computer is looking at Cydia instead of Apple. Good luck!

You need to uncheck the box that says "Request SHSH From Cydia" then you should be able to do a restore to IOS 5.0 without any errors.
That check box is found in TinyUmbrella under "Advanced" middle of the first page when it opens.

Uncheck : set hosts file to cydia and close it. Do your restore to 5.0 again.

PC : Run Notepad as admin.
Open up to file c
windows\system32\drivers\etc and drop down to see all file *.* > hosts file.
This may be hidden if folder options under control panel where hidden is selected.
Go delete any line that has gs.apple.com
Save and close it
Reboot
Restore to 5.0 again.

ive tried this a number of times.. erasing the gs apple changing the hosts.. get error 3194.. cant figure it out! its very frustrating lol any other ideas ?
when i open the host files this is what it looks like
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

You have something blocking itunes from contacting apple server. Use a different computer if you have one.
