iPhone 3G - jailbreak and unlock complete - apps crash on launch

Hi folks,

A friend of mine got herself an iPhone 3G that was running iOS 4.1. She unfortunately had one of the basebands that is not unlockable. I used redsn0w to install the iPad baseband, then restored it with a custom 4.2.1 firmware. This worked fine, I was able to use UltraSn0w and unlock the beast, and all seemed well.

In the app store she can download and install applications, but any app she does this with crashes on launch. I tried completely repeating the process (this time on my Mac using pwnagetool with a freshly downloaded 4.2.1 firmware), and same thing. Phone works, default apps work, but anything installed via the app store crashes immediately on launch.

I'm sure I've missed some critical piece of information. Anyone know what I bungled?

Youre restoring to a custom fw that does not have the iPad bb packaged, yes? That's required if the iPad bb is already installed and you want to do a new restore/upgrade.

You should also ensure you set the device up as new, and not restore from backup to test the apps.
