I'm a LONG time reader and first time poster here. I've generally never had a need to post as most of you do a kick-***** job of talking about pretty much everything, but now I have a couple very specific questions. So here goes:
1) I currently have a jailbroken & unlocked iPhone 3G and recently purchased an iPhone 4 jailbroken. Am I able to back-up my 3G and then "restore from back-up" my new iPhone 4 without losing the jailbreak on my iPhone 4? I just need to transfer all my mms, photos, contacts, etc. from my old 3G to my new iPhone 4.
2) What is the latest OS and firmware available for an iPhone 3G? I am thinking of giving my jailbroken and unlocked 3G to my little sister but contemplating upgrading it first. I wish to upgrade it to the latest OS for a 3G while keeping my jailbreak and unlock...or is it possible to do a full restore from iTunes hence essentially wiping out the phone clean and then jailbreaking and unlocking whatever the latest OS is?
I hope I was able to explain my situation well enough.
Your help is much appreciated as I'm a total rookie on these things.
1. Yes you are able to restore your iPhone 3G backup to your iPhone 4. You will lose your jailbreak and unlock of course because you are restoring. I believe if you have the update iTunes, it'll make you download the latest firmware, which is ios 5,keep in mind that there's no untether jailbreak. So what I would do is download 4.3.3 ipsw and use sn0wbreeze to make a cfw so you can preserve your baseband.
2. Latest firmware for iPhone 3G Is 3.1x ? I believe. I wouldn't restore it if I were you because there's a chance you might lose the unlock and jailbreak for the latest firmware
