how do you preserve the baseband without using sn0wbreeze?

I'm looking to go from 3.1.3 to say 4.1 without changing the baseband but sn0wbreeze has been unstable for me. This is iPhone 3G on Windows

The only other way is if you have a Mac to create a cFW with pwnagetool or if you google for a cFW made by pwnagetool (or sn0wbreeze, they all should work really).

I would suggest you upgrade it to 4.2.1 if anything.

If you go the route of googling for a cFW, be sure it doesn't have the iPad baseband upgrade packaged in it.

Pwnage tools 4.1.3 for Mac to create custom firmware of 4.1

Last time I used sn0wbreeze it didn't work, the phone froze at bootup.

I'm on PC so I can't use Pwnage tools myself. Haven't looked for pre-made firmwares to download before. (Help by PM anyone?)

We don't distribute custom firmwares on MMi so you're gonna have to do some searching.

Fortunately sn0wbreeze seems to have worked this time, going up to 4.2.1. Unlocked after a Cydia update. With fingers crossed, this might be it (I really shouldn't be spending any more time on this). Thank you for inspiring me to give sn0wbreeze another chance.
