Impossible to update/restore iPhone

I have a iPhone 3GS 16GB and it is in recovery mode.

I am trying to restore and update the iPhone so it is back to factory settings however I always seem to get the message "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1)"

How can I get around this?

Well it just says "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1)"



It shows this, however I found this on google images and I am on Windows not Mac

If ur phone will boot go into settings then general then there is a tab that says erase all settings and data this will take ur phone back to factory condition

Unfortunatly the phone will not boot up, I am stuck with the 'connect to itunes' logo.

Have u tried putting the phone in dfu mode and booting with ibooty

Did you put your phone in dfu mode? That should recognize your iPhone in recovery mode and will ask you to restore.

yeh I done that already, but when I restore it still shows the same error

Took it to Apple, they tried to update it and got the same error. They said it was a hardware/firmware problem however I have managed to load firmware 4.1 on it but came up with a different error after restoring
