Can I downgrade my iOS 5.0 to iOS 4.3.5 on iPhone4 ???
So I went up to 5.0 on my iPhone 4 and I didnt realize how many things were not 5.0 compatible from Cydia...
Any chance I can downgrade to anthing below 5.0 ? Or am I stuck?
Cheers!

You should stay at 5.0, once untethered jailbreak is out, all will be updated.

I managed a downgrade from iOS 5 to 4.3.3 with a walkthrough on redmondpie and redsnow. Also tinyumbrella helped boot kick when I got stuck in a boot loop. Untethered JB could be a while. You can always restore to iOS 5 if you get sick of trying the DG.

try this if you want to downgrade it worked for me
- Add to host file (C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/etc) 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com (don't do this if your going to 4.3.5 since its still signed)
- Put your phone into DFU mode
- Restore 4.3.3 or 4.3.5
- Downgrade Itunes to itunes 10.1.2.17
- Put your phone back into DFU mode
- Run Fixrecovery 4.3.exe
- Run iTunes 10.1.2.17 now and your phone should boot up no problem

I don't believe 4.3.5 is still being signed? You'll also need SHSHs to do any sort of downgrade to fw no long being signed.

is rolling back to iTunes 10.1.2.17 a requirement (and/or recommendation) for rolling back from 5 to 4.3.3?
im still on itunes 10.5.0.142 and running into issues (i posted here) with iTunes seeing backups which are present in the expected file. it seems unlikely to me, but could the iTunes version be why?Last edited by lindseyanne; 10-22-2011 at 09:32 PM.

ok, remarkably stupid question, but:
is there a trusted source for 10.1.2.17 ? google abounds with options, but i am paranoid.

Old Version of iTunes Download - OldApps.com
Edit: because I say it's trustworthy. J/k, no really though I get my old version of stuff from here.

thank you, annie!!
stupid question part 2: since they dont have 10.1.2.17 explicitly listed, is 10.1.2 tolerable?

I would imagine so. It should work fine, if my hunch is correct...

ok - 10.1.2.17 installed. and im on 4.3.3.
but ... i cant get any machine to allow me to see any of my semi-recent useful backups, which i have verified as present still in the folders at C
Users\[me]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup on the win7 box, and the other appropriate folder on the xp box.
at present, i see a ton of backups listed in Preferences > Devices, but iTunes doesnt want to allow me access to any of them.
they show the same IMEI and Serial No, but some are named differently to reflect the name of the phone at the time the backup was done. (when i was repeatedly resetting my phone, i let it keep the default name for a short while, and now this machine has a couple of backup under the phones default name.) could that be causing any issue?
ive renamed my device back to its "good" name in the unlikely hope that "good" backups will be accessible... which they arent.
and now .. im at a loss.
also - at this point, should i jailbreak 4.3.3 before going any further? or hold off, still?
(also also, am i the only one for whom forum search is broken?
i feel bad for asking questions which have likely been covered, but i am having trouble getting any modmyi search page to load for me, on any machine or browser. :-/ )

Official or Beta?
Hi guys,... are we talking here to downgrade from the IOS 5 OFFICIAL Version or the Beta? From the Beta I know you can downgrade but I've tried everything and searched the web intensely looking for some solution for the Official version and all I found out was that once your on the OFFICIAL 5.0, you can't downgrade!!! I have All my shsh's saved and tried everything. The closest I got was the background wallpaper of 4.2.6 and the emergency phone showing with the image of the plug and itunes using tiny umbrella and redsnow. Could not get out of that for the life of me. I GIVE UP!!! Might as well wait for the untethered jailbreak unless,..... someone has an answer to downgrade from official 5.0. My iphone 4 is a year old and came with 4.2.6.
I did try to downgrade to 4.2.10, 4.2.8, 4.2.6. No such luck!

5.0 being "official" has nothing to do with it.
During the betas, they were signing 4.2.10 and 4.3.5.
Shortly after 5.0 dropped, they stopped signing 4.2.10 and 4.3.5.
There's no single "one-size fits all" answer on how to downgrade,
but if you have SHSHs for older firmware revisions, and if you haven't also updated your baseband to a newer one,
you should be able to downgrade to those older firmwares.
If you have already updated your baseband, you may not be able to downgrade again.
What's your BB?
