do i have an untethered 4.3.5 jailbreak??? (didn't connect to computer & rebooted fine)
here is the scenario. my buddy got a used iphone 4 and it was stuck on the greenpois0n boot skull so he asked me to restore it... since i didn't know anything about the state of the phone this is what i did.
1. used sn0wbreeze-v2.8b8 to make a custom iOS5 ipsw to preserve whatever baseband was on this phone
2. put the phone in pwned dfu mode, and shift+restored the custom iOS 5 ipsw
3. phone booted up, activated it and checked the baseband, and it was 03.10.01
4. got a little paranoid about the tethered ios jailbreak so i didn't jailbreak it. but then got even more paranoid about the OTA delta updates and i didn't want to think an OTA update would upgrade the baseband
5. started up tinyumbrella, and saved shsh (it saved for 4.3.5 at first) then today it saved for 5.0
6. spent half day trying to see how i can downgrade to 4.3.3 for an untethered jailbreak
7. tried using iFaith with iOS5 but it crashed
8. read about custom (preserve basebaned for 4.3.5 + jailbreak) with Pwnage Tool
9. Downloaded Pwnage tool on my wifes mac, and the 4.3.5 bundle.. built the IPSW
10. transferred the ipsw back onto my pc
11. started up tinyumbrella and started tss server
12. put the phone in pwned dfu mode using redsn0w 0.9.9b6
13. shift+restored using pwnage tool custom firmware
14. phone rebooted and wanted me to insert a sim card.. so i inserted sim card and it got activated
15. i checked the baseband, and it was still 03.10.01
16. I checked and there was CYDIA!
17. Just to verify -- i rebooted the phone and it booted right back up
--
now, i don't want to break something since everything is working and i don't want to start up cydia in case it downloads or does something which will require a tethered boot..
since i am on tmobile, i used an unactivated at&t microsim that i had got with my iphone 4.. my buddy will pick up the phone on saturday. After he plugs in his working at&t microsim, i'll place a test call and then reboot the phone. hopefully
but, if i have cydia on the screen, does it mean the phone is jailbroken?
i am on 4.3.5, baseband 03.10.01 - the only reason i thought of doing this was to get down to 4.x.x and then use iFaith to get shsh for 4.3.3 and then restore down to 4.3.3 and do an untethered jailbreak.. but right now, it seems like i don't have to go through this route..
can anyone explain what might have happened??

I was thinking of going to 4.3.3 for an untethered jailbreak
But
Now I have 4.3.5 with Cydia and I don't have to boot tethered... I guess I'll post a video later so u can see what I mean.

Is Cydia showing up with a grey icon?

I thought 4.3.5 is tethered only. That's why I'm confused I guess. Sorry if it doesn't make sense
No, Cydia is showing up properly (normal brownish icon) I just haven't clicked on it to see if it loads up cuz I'd rather be able to reboot without having to connect to a computer since I did this for a friend who probably wouldn't want a tethered jailbreak.
But if the icon us not gray does it mean Cydia is installed nd should work?
Okay here is a video I just uploaded. Tried hd but ut kept failing so had to upload standard version.. Untethered jailbreak iPhone 4 - iOS 4.3.5 - YouTubeLast edited by dishguy05; 10-22-2011 at 12:27 AM.

Ok so does cydia work? I'd really like to know if you some how figured out a complicated way to have an untethered JB for 4.3.5. Please let us know what happen when you actually run cydia. I have a feeling it's just going to crash right back to springboard, but I'd really like to know the scoop on that as I'm sure quite a few others are as well.

I think he has a semi tethered jb.
You can open cydia and stuff but if you install somthing with mobile substrate you will have a full tethered Jailbreak.
With a semi jb you can reboot but no cydia tweaks or safari will work without a tethered boot.
iOS 5 semi tethered also suggest not installing any notification center tweaks as it could end up in a boot loopLast edited by Megaorange; 10-22-2011 at 09:22 PM.
