How do I UPDATE from JB-4.3.5 to JB-5.0 ???
I have a Tethered iPhone4 running 4.3.5, and I want to update to 5.0 and Jailbreak it (I know its tethered)
What are steps in updating without getting stuck in some sort of loop.
Just want to avoid any frustrations in advance
Cheers!

Really, Since I have already downloaded iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore, can I just hit Shift-Restore and update it that way?
What about Baseband? I have 4.10.01, what will it change to? And what would be the pros and cons?
Thanks a bunch!

yes, shift restore is the alternate method, bb will be updated to 04.11.00, if you don't use gevey sim , you are fine.
Pros and cons, iOS 5 is much better even on the battery lasts longer.

Hopefully Untethered gets released soon. (Just a little selfish think, lol)

There will be untethered when it comes out, all you need is to run the newer redsnow over the present jailbreak.
It is good that you restore now and starting iOS 5, saving blob will not help you to restore once apple stops signing the firmware.

I Shifted-Restored and the FW extracted, and phone rebooted, now showing USB/iTunes logos, and iTunes returned error 1602
HELP!

Go to hosts file and delete line with gs.apple.com
iTunes 10.5 is required.

I updated to 10.5 itunes
And my Host file has this inside (Notepad)
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
127.0.0.1 localhost
#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
Itunes states that the server cannot be reach.
I then deleted the last 2 lines and its updating now... Wish me luck...Last edited by karloz25; 10-19-2011 at 11:54 PM.

Thanks iYeow....
Phone just finished rebooting, and iOS-5.0 now installed on my iPhone4
Very neat to see the Apple logo get larger and full screen during the end of the update
Now time to jailbreak it.

After the jailbreak, your cydia icon is white, do a tether boot to get cydia icon working.
After a reboot, you will end up with apple logo, tether boot again.
The battery will last much longer with this IOS 5.0 and enjoy.
Imessage is great, free texting, pics , videos for free if the other person has imessage on iphone, ipod or ipad.

I have read all the threads and followed all the instructions, but I still can't get my phone to update. I have an IPhone 4, IOS 4.3.5 that is jailbroken (tethered of course) however, i am unable to update to 5 or to restore it to take the jailbreak off. I have even tried to go down to 4.3.3 and regardless I get error message 3194. I have the updated iTunes, i'm now at a loss-i would appreciate any help anyone could offer.
Thanks in advance!!
