iPhone 3GS is Caught Between a Lock and a Dilemma!

PLEASE!!! I REALLY NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS.

I have an iPhone 3Gs (old boot ROM), BB: 05.11.07, and currently jail-broken and unlocked on iOS 4.1.

I'm hoping someone hear (maybe one of you knowledgleable and very helpful moderators ) can authoritatively answer these two SPECIFIC questions.

1.) Can I use redsn0w v0.9.9 beta 4 (supports Windows) to do an untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.35, while preserving my baseband at 05.11.07? (Please note, I'm NOT askiing about iOS 5, 4.3.4 or 4.3.3.)

2.) Can I then use sn0wbreeze 1.2.4 to unlock my jail-broken 3GS, iOS 4.35, BB: 05.11.07?

Their is documentation on the web that seems to suggest so, but I'm just not sure.

What you need is to restore to custom firmware to preserve your baseband. In redsn0w ,is there an option to create a custom firmware, if there is then Yes.
Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 can unlock up to IOS 5 for current unlockable bb like yours.
If anything goes wrong, you can always fall back by restoring to custom firmware of 4.1.

Do you have 4.3.3 blob ?

For PC User : 3gs , Old bootrom
This is what you can do : Build a custom firmware of 5.0 from Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 for Mac or google search.
Restore to custom firmware of 5.0 to preserve your bb or if you have ipad bb.
Run Redsn0w 0.9.9b4 for PC to jailbreak. Browse to stock 5.0 ipsw.
Everything works except the Safari icon is white but safari works.
I have unlock it with Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 for Maxis Hotlink Sim Card .
It is untethered jailbreak for Old bootrom, tethered jailbreak for New bootrom.

Thank you iYeow for your response. Unfortunately, neither I or the Cydia cache server, have a 4.3.3 SHSH blob for my iPhone. I didn't jailbreak this device until after Apple had stopped signing for that version. What I have is 4.1, 4.3.5, and 5.0 GM. Obviously, I want to upgrade to 5, but I think it wise to wait a bit. Others seem to be having lots of issues with it. Besides, not all the apps I use have been updated to support it. So I'm going to wait. But I'm anxious to get beyond iOS 4.1. I want the enhanced native functionality that came after 4.1, as well as, some additional apps that require a FW >4.2.1.

Therefore, I'm left with iOS 4.3.5 for the time being. Things I've read on iphonewiki.com seem to suggest that redsn0w 0.9.9 beta 4 (I'm a Windows user) could do an untethered jailbreak of a 3GS (old boot ROM) on iOS 4.3.5 while preserving the baseband. Is that your understanding? I haven't used redsn0w in the past. I just don't want to make a mistake and find that redsn0w has updated my baseband. I've only used sn0breeze in the past to jailbreak my phone on iOS 4.1--and of course that went very well. What do you think?

It works for old bootrom. Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 can build a N0 BB update, you can google search for one.
The way to put your iphone into pwned dfu is if you are at 4.1, then you use redsn0w 0.9.6 b6, browse to stock 4.1 and set your iphone into pwned dfu mode.
All pwned dfu mode are the same, it uses Limera1n bootrom exploit.
Now once you are in Pwned dfu, run itunes, make sure you are verifying with apple server and restore to cfw of 5.0
Once you are at 5.0 and after doing all the iniitial setup ,
Run Redsn0w 0.9.9b4 for windows to jailbreak, browse to stock 5.0 ipsw, just choose install cydia.
All done.

I have 2 old bootrom 3GS jailbroken on iOS 5.

First device had blank Safari icon but it somehow fixed itself....

Second device had blank Photo icon so I redone the jailbreak and then it was fine.

My safari icon also fixes itself, everything is working fine now.
Surprisingly ibooks works. edit : Nay, doesn't work after numerous attempt to login.

Thanks for trying to help me. I'm confused. But I'm determined to get "unconfused." You're talking about iOS 5 and I'm talking about iOS 4.3.5. I really don't think I want to upgrade to 5 right now. For the reasons I detailed above. So I'm asking, do you think their is any way for me to upgrade to 4.3.5, jailbreak my phone while maintaining my baseband, and unlock it with any of the tools I've referred to above?

If redsn0w 0.9.9b4 can jailbreak IOS 5, it can definitely create a custom ipsw and jailbreak it especially when you have the old bootrom.

Just remember, always stay away from stock firmware.

When running redsn0w , if redsn0w can identiy 4.3.5, then it can jailbreak. I haven't done 4.3.5 as 4.3.5 is released to block jailbreakme.com and fixes cetificate issue. I wouldn't go for 4.3.5 if i were you.
You will love IOS 5, besides once apple stops signing Ios 5, then you cannot restore to 5.0 as shsh blob won't work anymore.

I realize with iOS 5.0 and beyond we're no longer able to save our blobs. So I guess, if Apple comes out with quick delta update, 5.0 will no longer be available to me?

BTW, what if any problems or anomolies are you experiencing with iOS 5?

I am testing out IOS 5 on my 3gs but have not done it on my iphone 4 yet. There are so many new features in IOS 5.0.

If in fact, this jailbreak is improved upon in the future, in a way that eliminates any problems that some people are experiencing with their 3GS, will we still be able redo it with the improved JB?

This jailbreak seems fine for old bootrom, I haven't found any bugs. This means that you do not need to jailbreak again unless you need to restore again.

Put your iphone into pwned dfu mode and restore to custom firmware of 5.0.
Once you have finished restored , iphone is not jailbroken yet.
Run redsn0w in Xp > sp2 compatibility mode and admin , save it.
When you run redsn0w to jailbreak, click extra and select your stock 5.0 , then go back to the first screen , click on jailbreak > answer No to new bootrom > let the ramdisk load > follow the rest of instuction : do the count > let go your Home button only when you see the image on your iphone screen.

I spoke too soon, only one problem, I cannot log in to iBooks to download my books directly from app store. It keeps saying log in incorrect.

That seems to be one of a few problems people have been reporting. I'm not sure if its limited to just the 3GS though.

I notice that after my final post last night, the DEV-TEAM released redsn0w 0.9.9b6 for both Mac and Windows. Apparently, it's meant to deal with some of these issues and addresses some of the bugs the Windows version was experiencing. (Thats why there never was a 0.9.9b5 version for Windows.) In particular, it seems to solve some problems that 3GS (new boot ROM) users who needed to upgrade to iPad 1 baseband (06.15.0 ) were having. In light of this release, I haven't done the upgrade yet. I'm going to do some looking around to see what people are reporting.

This new redsn0w for windows doesn't fix the ibooks issue . If you are not into ibooks, then that is fine.

That's my understanding. According to update #13 on the DEV-TEAM web site, "we’re currently working on a normal compatibility update for existing ultrasn0w unlockers. After that we’ll try to fix the iBooks issue on jailbroken iOS5." Well, they completed the compatibility update for ultrasn0w 4 days ago, so their probably already working on it.

What about iMessages? Is that working for you? Some people are reporting problems.

I haven't heard anything official regarding iMessage yet, but I believe the servers are down (or something like that). A minute or 2 after I send as iMessage, it turns green and says "sent as text message".

Frankly speaking, i don't even know how imessaging works. I have been on this website almost the whole day , don't have time to play with new festures...How do you distinguish the normal messaging and Imessage, don't want a hugh bill from my carrier.

I noticed the battey last way much longer now on my jailbroken 3gs at IOS 5. Whole day only uses less than 20 %.
