Cannot update to iOS 5. Errors 3194 and 3002
I'm on an iPod touch 4G running 4.3.3, jailbroken with jailbreakme.com. I'm trying to update to 5.0, but I get error 3194 when I try to restore and error 3002 when I try to update, both from a saved copy of the .ipsw file. When I try downloading iOS 5 through iTunes (it took like 2 hours last night) I get error -42, which I can't even find anything for online. I have made sure that tinyumbrella isn't looking to Cydia for verification. My brother is also having this problem on his computer with his iPod, running 4.2.1 jailbroken with limera1n.
Please tell me what to do to get this verified.

Point hosts file to apple server , you can set it within TU , update iTunes to latest , download 5.0 ipsw and shift + restore to 5.0.

@iYeow, do you think I'm stupid? Of the four things you said I should do, I explicitly stated that I had done three of them, and I didn't say I updated iTunes because I assumed that was necessary to even try to update. Shift+Update gave me Error 3002 and Shift+Restore gave me Error 3194, which, again, I have already said. You are no help at all.
@ess173 I tried doing that as well. Do you have TinyUmbrella installed, or did you just not use it? My brother does have TinyUmbrella installed, and he hasn't been able to upgrade since JailbreakMe.com 3.0 came out and he wanted to upgrade to 4.3.3 but not 4.3.4.

3002 error = You are trying to update to 5.0. You cannot do this. It has to be a restore.
3194 = Your hosts are either pointed to cydia or are corrupted. In any case they are wrong.
Also snapping at people that are trying to help you is not going to get you very far...
Open tiny umbrella
Click on advanced
deselect the box that says "set hosts to cydia on exit"
Close tiny umbrella and proceed with the restore

Ok, then something is wrong with your hosts file. iTunes is not able to contact apple in order to get your SHSH for 5.0. Are you on windows or Mac (what version too) and do you have another computer you can try this on?

How are you running tiny umbrella? Just double-clicking on it or right-clicking on it and choosing to run as administrator?

i was double clicking it, i just right clicked and did run as admin, that line is still unchecked.

Thats fine, run it as admin. Then click that box then close tiny umbrella. Then run it as admin again and uncheck that box. Then close tiny umbrella. Then open iTunes and try restoring to 5.0 again. If it still doesn't work try rebooting the computer.

Hey guys, I figured out what fixed mine. First, I went in and manually changed my hosts file, since TinyUmbrella obviously wasn't doing it. Then I put my iPod in DFU mode, Shift+Restored from my saved .ipsw, and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps other people.
Also, why can't you upgrade to iOS 5? That doesn't even make sense.

Apple has never really allowed a update to a new X.0 firmware. It has always been a backup then restore, even if pressing the update button. This year they seem to have overlooked that though and just give an error 3002 back if you press update, pretty lame IMO.
@steel I suggest doing what fred did and manually checking your hosts file if tiny umbrella is not cutting it. If you see any numbers in your hosts file that begin with 7 then you need to put a # in front of them.

Try this: Fix iTunes Error 3194 while Downgrading iPhone Firmware | Jaxov
except you dont want to add the cydia address. Take that out, but is should give you an idea of how to edit your hosts file manually.
Or even better this one: HOW TO - Resolve iTunes Unknown Error 3194Last edited by Simon; 10-14-2011 at 11:25 PM.
