I have a 3GS I want to sell that is jailbroken on 4.0.1. Basically, I am moving from an iPhone 4 to the 4S and my wife is taking my 4 and we will sell her 3GS. I assume when she moves into the 4 tomorrow that means her current 3GS SIM card will be deactivated. Hence my question on whether I need an active SIM card to get the 3GS ready for sale.
On the topic of selling the 3GS, I wanted to make sure all personal data is off the iPhone before selling it and read that the clear/reset settings ultimately results in having to do a restore which I assume would be to iOS5 if I let iTunes do it's thing. Can a person modify the operating system of an iPhone when there is no active SIM Card? If so, I guess I could just restore to 4.3.3 with Redsnow or just forget the jailbreak all together and just restore to iOS5 and sell it.
Just want to make sure my wife and I can both transition into the 4S and the 4 tomorrow and then this weekend I can deal with the 3GS one way or the other.
