Exclamation ERROR UPGRADING 3GS "This device is not eligible"

Trying to upgrade 3GS to IOS 5, keep getting the above error. I have updated iTunes to latest version as well as latest osx update. Any solution to this? I have tried both regular update as well as manually downloading ipsw file and option+restore.

Are you sure it is a 3GS and not a 3G? And are you using the public release of iOS 5?

Did you backup shsh blobs through TinyUmbrella? I had the same issue yesterday on my 3GS going to iOS5 and found out you have to uncheck the box in TinyUmbrella that says "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit (If you need a clean restore from Apple uncheck this box)", then close it and itunes, and restarted itunes and it worked fine.

Seems others had this issue, mentions the 4 but I would think it'd work for the 3GS. There's a host file that has to be edited. Fix This device isn’t eligible for the requested build error [Solved]

Thanks, editing the host file by removing the gs.apple.com reference solved the problem

Yeh the other thing I mentioned was similar for JB phones, it screws with the host file.
