help upgrading to iOS 5
Long story short last week i had to update to 4.3.5 and currently have my phone JB with redsn0w tethered. Just downloaded iOS 5 in itunes and tried updating and get an error. Set my phone into DFU and tried to restore and start from scratch and still get an error. This is my first time trying to upgrade since JBing is there any secret?
TIA

Sorry. Yes I updated my iTunes this morning in anticipation of iOS 5. I'm on ip4. I had to leave for work and am not 100% certain of the error code at the moment.
More or less just looking for the appropriate method to update. Assuming simply selecting update would not work?

It is possible your hosts file is pointing towards cydia server. Go to tiny umbrella under adv tab : uncheck : set hosts file to cydia , close it and do a restore in itunes, not update. You can later setup as a backup restore. No untethered jailbreak at ios 5 yet.

Hi i have the same problem, need to upgrade to ios5 but itunes is showing me error 3194. I have troubleshooted every step given on apple support but still the same error coming. I am on iOS 4.3.5 and I jailbreak my device through redsn0w which is a tethered jailbreak. Plz suggest me how can I solve this problem.

I'd recommend attempting the Tiny Umbrella fix again:
Fix iTunes Error 3194 When Restoring / Updating To Stock or Custom 4.3.3 Firmware | Redmond Pie
I was getting the same error and had 0 problems once I used this method. Ignore 4.3.3 its the same for 5. With your phone plugged in open tinyumbrella and go to the advanced tab and uncheck set host files to cydia (redmondpie says click apply changes mine didn't have that option maybe yours will?) Then go back to itunes and restore your phone. You won't be able to update you'll have to backup your phone and do a restore (atleast I had to)
hope you get it figured out

I myself was having the same problem and did the TinyUmbrella steps to see if that worked for me. No success. I had a word with some people and someone i was talking to had an iPhone 4 with a tethered 4.3.5 jb and said he put his phone into DFU and it worked fine. I did this when i came back from work and everything ran like clockwork. This can be used as a last resort but this has worked for me no problems. The steps i did are as follows:
1) Turned my phone off and restarted until screen flashed white (this sometimes never happens so about 30secs should be enough)
2) Restart the phone and put it into DFU mode
3) A Apple driver should download for you and iTunes should say that a device has been detected in recovery mode
4) Click restore and let iTunes do its thing
5) Wait for initial verification to work and your done
6) Set up the initial iOS 5 setup and your good to go
Hope this has been helpful and give you another option to try if you run out of ideas. Let me know how you get on. All the best
