Default iPhone 3g sucky performance. Any help?

    Good Evening all,

I've posted here a couple of time in the past. This website is very helpful. I like it very much. Although not too tech savvy, I usually don't have a terribly difficult time making simple mods. Haven't done any in a while so, its getting a little more complicated in my eyes.

    ANYWAY..., I currently have a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3G 8g [v. 4.1 (8B117)] and Modem Firmware 06.15.00 with T-Mobile as my carrier.

I'm running Windows Vista 32bit Home Edition (if that helps at all) with the latest version of iTunes (10.5?)

Phone works fine. Makes calls, takes pic, etc... just does it all very SLOWLY. Freezes up ALL the time - even during calls. EXTREMELY slow moving between apps. Very choppy.

I would like to attempt to empty the device (of all pics, music, apps, etc...) and starting all over again. Would this be wise? When I updated to iTunes 10.5 tonight, it asked if I wanted to update the phone to a newer firmware (4.2). If I did this, would it change my baseband and render the phone unlockable? Would upgrading, re-jailbreaking/unlocking make the phone perform any better? Or is there anything else I can do to make it perform a little faster without having to do all of this?

I even tried removing apps, pics and music but that didnt help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Go get FakeClockUp in Cydia it's free it only over clicks the GUI

Last I'd heard, actual overclocking was thought to be possible by kernel hackers, but would require dinking around with kernel flags in the very early bootloader, which hasn't been really practical to test since iOS 2.0. Even if some genius did find a way to enable it (and write an LKM (if the hardware actually supported it)), given the tight margins for heat dissipation and battery life, overclocking would be more likely to ruin your machine than help.

    Hey. Thanks for the reply.

A little more help though. I can't seem to find it. Might it be spelled differently?

Or maybe, what category would it be under?

    Thanks again.

The 3g basically sucks after going to v4.0 or higher. Painfully, PAINFULLY slow. Get a 3gs or newer, and all your problems will go away.

3g has 128 mb ram whereas 3gs has 256 mb of RAM and faster processor. 3g iphone is now obselete. For best performance, 3.1.3 has the best performance for 3g. Hope this make sense.
