Really new to iPhone's, jailbreaking, or any of this. I bought a 3gs from craigslist to replace my iPhone I broke not long ago. I saw it working, tested it etc. The guy then went into settings to restore to clear his contacts/photos etc. I got home, popped in an at&t (from my old one) hooked it up to iTunes and began to set it back up. I restored from one of my old saves, and it seemed to work loading my contacts/photos etc, but then it said something about updating so I clicked it. Once I did that, it went into recovery mode and will not come out. Again, no experience dealing with JB programs and all, but I tried using tinyumbrella, irecovery, redsnow but I cannot get it to work. After my last few attempts at using redsnow, it seems to be stuck in DFU (black screen...won't do anything but itunes/other programs detect it). Thanks in advance for any help. Oh, and my old iPhone...the lcd is hosed, case cracked etc but I was thinking of trying to sell it to some of these folks that repair and sell them, but I want to make sure there are no pictures etc on it. Right after I smashed it, iTunes would detect it, but now I can't even get it to detect. Any ideas? Hopefully some one can help. Thanks again.

Can't edit for some reason, but wanted to add this,

Oh, I am using Windows XP and depending on which way I was trying to restore the iPhone I have gotten different errors from iTunes. 20, 1015, 3194 and others

    Is your iphone unlocked ?
Put iphone into dfu mode and restore to stock 4.1.
Run exit recovery from within tiny umbrella to kick out error 1015.
Pretty sure you have the iPad bb.

Thanks, will try this. Not sure it will work though since everytime I try and restore to any firmware it gives me an error, no matter which way I try it.
I have no idea what the previous owner did to it (looked it over very briefly, then he restored it) but I know when I got it home I used my AT&T sim card and preceeded to set it up with my old stuff on it. My AT&T sim allowed me to go through iTunes setting it up without any 3rd party software or anything. As far as the ipad bb, I have no idea. Why would someone put in an ipad baseband on an iphone?

Most people want to unlock it.
Put your iphone into dfu , run itunes : shift + restore to 4.1

Also, if I restore the fw to 4.1 with this reset the ipad bb? Guess I need to read up and see if there is any real benefit for me to use that bb. Thanks again

No , it will not reset, did you not ask the seller ? Using iPad bb breaks your gps .

If you get error 3194, let me know.

Didn't think to ask him about unlocking or anything. Figured once I used my sim and restored everything it would all just work fine...emailed him back asking about it. Just waiting for reply now.

Just downgrade to 4.1, there is no point asking now unless you want to return it.

Just keep getting 1015 error when using 4.1 to restore. Tried tinyumbrella each time, but nothing. I only ever have the exit recovery option though, not fix recovery. Not 100% sure if I am doing something wrong or if the fix just requires a previous save of shsh.

Use exit recovery to kick it. Are you using the latest version of TU

I kept trying that, and yeah I have the latest tu. It took me several times of restoring 4.1 and then ateempting to kick it out using tu but it finally worked. Thank you very much.

Go to settings > general > about and check your modem firmware, it should be 6.15.xx

It is, and seems to be working fine now. At least as long as I don't try and update the fw in itunes to anything newer. Thanks again

Is your iphone jailbroken now ? I think you don't need Ultrasnow since you are with atnt.
You can now run TU , plug iphone in and adv tab request shsh blob from cydia and click save shsh, look under general tab to see your shsh blob.
