The ubiquitous JB question

Forgive me tech guru's for I have sinned, it has been a year since my last Jail break.

I have an iphone 4 with 4.1 FW on it, before I did that I used Tiny Umbrella and I have some file called "348128916942-iphone4-4.1.shsh" saved in my iphone folder, I don't remember exactly what I did to get it there. I'm running a PC BTW.

I'm thinking maybe I should be upgrading to the latest FW that still allows me to JB my phone, can't imagine a life without a JB'en iphone, so I'm on here asking what steps I need to follow to do this.

I'm sure the answer is somewhere on this forum, but I'll be damned if there aren't a thousand references to what I'm looking for and I'm not sure which one I should be following. I just want the simple steps to upgrade my FW and then be able to JB it again. I don't know how to "build a custom firmware" or what that even means. Is there a simple step by step process I need to follow?

Currently only 4.3.3 can have an untethered jailbreak.
Download the latest tiny umbrella and request shsh blob from Cydia by clicking save shsh. Look under general for blob.
If you don't have 4.3.3, i advise you not to do any restore as you will be forced to go to 4.3.5
If you do have it, start your tss server from within TU , you can restore from your current bootable state.
Run itunes : shift + restore to 4.3.3 ipsw
Error 1013 will pop up
Run Redsn0w 0.9.9b1, use the fix recovery to get you out.
If successful, then you can use jailbreakme.com 3.0 from safari on your iphone.

Alternative
Create a custom firmware of 4.3.3 from Pwnage tools 4.3.3.1 or snowbreeze 2.7.3
Use the above tools to put iphone into pwned dfu mode and restore to cfw of 4.3.3 ( error 1013 wil not pop up )
You still need to start tss server for this restore

4.3.3 can have an untethered JB, got it, no need to have it connected every time I need to reboot the phone.

DL the latest TB, I suppose I can do that, but when I went to Cydia I don't see an option to request an shsh blob. EDIT: I dl'ed and ran the latest TU and now have several shsh files now, but still don't know what it means to request a blob from Cydia.

I don't have 4.3.3, I don't know why I'd do a restore.

I said I have 4.1, so not sure what the rest of your instructions are talking about. You completely lost me with pretty much everything you wrote in the second half of your post, especially the part where you told me to create a custom FW after I already posted that I don't know how to do that.

Oops, so if you don't have 4.3.3 blob, you should stay at 4.1 for now.

Also, remember that when you click on "Save SHSH" it will display you a list of all the SHSH Blobs you have available. Since you are telling us that you have "several fileS" I guess TU downloaded new Blobs. Check the list and see if 4.3.3 is listed. If it is, you can do the restore, if not. Stay away from it and wait til a new untethered jb appears.

For some reason all the "blobs" (is that an shsh file?) are for iphone3, except for the 4.1.

when you say "Alternative" you mean that it is possible to use a cfw of 4.3.3 to downgrade, or to get rid of the error 1013?
