GreenPois0n RC5 Untethered question
I have 3g jailbroken 4.1 (BB117)
modem firmware 05.14.02 unlocked (either factory unlock or I did something right via redsn0w, i dunno). My Cydia says I have shsh ios 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1, 4.2.1
I have unlockit APN cell data.
Everything works great! But a program I want to use (Gigwalk) requires 4.2.
Am I safe to use GreenPois0n RC5 without screwing up my unlock?
Thanks.

You will need to preserve your baseband when updating to 4.2.1. You could just install the iPad's baseband which is unlockable via Ultrasn0w. You can use a tool like Redsn0w

Sorry, but TERRIBLE advice!
You can't just say to someone who might be a bit clueless "you can just upgrade to the iPad BB", like making out it's entirely safe, and straight forward, and works perfectly!
Ya sure, everyone should do their own homework first, but if your suggesting the iPad BB at the very least tell the guy it's not advisable and to research it before doing it.
To the OP: Do not upgrade to the iPad BB without first discovering the implications and being 100% your sure you want to do it.
Why? At best you will lose all GPS functions. At worst your phone will become inoperable on any network.

I must attract idiots.
This is a forum, it's a place to discuss something we all enjoy. I didn't tell the OP that he MUST do what I've said, it was an option. I also don't like to spoon feed people either - meaning they should do a little research before doing anything themselves.
Losing all GPS services isn't true either, admittedly it has happened but it's rare.
baskie, you need to calm down a little.

Calm down? CALM DOWN? Are you insane?
I CAN'T CALM DOWN, this is an Internet forum. PEOPLE COULD DIE IF I CALM DOWN!

Yeah, I knew about the ipad bb problem, but greenp0ison automatically updates the bb (to what bb, I don't know). And does it without using your shsh blobs. Are you speaking specifically about the greenp0ison R5 upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2?

Both please move on and focus on the topic at hand: helping the user with a greenpois0n question.

There really is no winning with some people. It wasn't bad advice at all. I think you'll find I'm more than knowledgable when it comes to this topic.
If the OP doesn't want to install the iPad baseband, that is his choice. It was an option.

That is wrong. Updating to the iPad BB disables the GPS chip functionality. The only GPS services remaining are cell based . This is not a rare occurrence, it happens to all iPhones with the iPad BB.
I strongly advise against updating to the iPad BB unless there is no other option. He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

Wow. Witch hunt or what?
It was an option, I didn't tell the OP to go out and do it right-away.
*facepalm*

Ok, lot of stray advice going around. It sounds to me like you are saying you have a fully functioning phone on 4.1 right now. If that is the case and you are not on official carrier then you have a factory unlocked iPhone. This means do NOT under any circumstances install the iPad baseband, you do not need it and it will do more harm than good.
To answer your question regarding going to 4.2.1 and jailbreaking, greenpoison will not work on a iPhone 3G. Your best bet is redsnow 0.9.6rc19 to jailbreak that. You should be able to update directly in itunes to 4.2.1 then use redsnow to install cydia after.
Greenpoison does not update your baseband.Last edited by Simon; 09-28-2011 at 07:32 AM.

No witch hunt, I'm not making forums unfriendly and your right, you can't win, when your wrong.
My final comment, which just repeats what I've said above: if your going to advise someone to do something to their phone that YOU KNOW will render it at best working but with reduced functionality you really should warn them as such.
