managed to restore through itunes using tu.
I had to restore, get error 1013, exit recovery, fix recovery then restore again. Most people would have just been thankful and stopped there and then but I did this process twice just to be certain that's what I had to do!!

No it's working fine now

Dunno what the issue was with redsn0w, I've never had that happen before. It's normally very stable.
Oh apart from the whole reason I restored in the first place, I can't play music through the dock connector (wanted to make sure it was a hardware issue)
