help- messed up jb

I hate updating and re-jailbreaking, I always mess it up.. Tried going from 4.2.1 to 4.3.3 on my jb iphone 4. Kept getting stuck in recovery instead of going into dfu. Tried tiny umbrella to get it out of recovery but it was totally stuck. In the end I just did a full restore with itunes. Now of course I'm on 4.3.5 and I don't want to be ! So please, can you give me a step by step for Miss Techno-weeny here. Which jailbreak do I need ? redsnow, greenpoison, snowbreeze ? And why do I always end up in recovery instead of dfu ?!

If you have 4.3.3 blob downloaded on the latest TU , you can see it under general tab.
Run TU , tick update iPhone bb update, highlight your device , start TSS server
Put iPhone into dfu mode and restore to 4.3.3 through iTunes.

just checked tu, no blobs saved. Thought they were.

I put the phone into dfu. itunes then says its in recovery. but when I shift click to restore, it doesn't give me the option of choosing a different ipsw. I can't think what i've missed, its a long time since I had to jb

Do you have fingerprint scanner software, if you do uninstall or disable it.
When checking for blob, have you made shsh request from cydia and click save shsh. All these can be managed under advance tab of TU.
