Default Error 3194 tried EVERYTHING, Can anyone help!
    Hi All,

I am REALLY stumped with a issue I am having, my girlfriend has a iPhone 3gs and recently got authorization from Vodafone that she can unlock her iphone due to the contract being up.

As I am sure ye are aware you need to restore your iPhone in order to get the unlock to go through but I do not want to upgrade to 4.3.5 through the apple restore button cos I will lose the untethered jailbreak.

So the problem i am having is at present the phone is on firmware 4.3.1 and I have all the other IPSW available including 4.3.1, 4.3.2, 4.3.3 and 4.3.4.

When i try and restore to any of these firmware in DFU mode or normal mode I get error 3194.

I tried changing the host file as everyone is saying and still get the same error and I tried reinstalling iTunes in case I damaged the Host file so hopefully it would get restored with the fresh install.

I tried the old Custom IPSW file i had from when i originally JB the phone with and still the same stupid error 3194

Is there anyway around this in any way cos i am REALLY struggling to not bounce this phone off the wall

ipsw files are Apple firmware. In order to restore to a non-current ipsw or iOS (except 4.1), you need saved SHSH blobs for older ipsw / firmwares.

Download and run Tiny Umbrella, connect your phone, go to advanced tab, check 'get shsh from Cydia", press Save SHSH, go to advanced tab, uncheck 'get shsh from Cydia', press Save SHSH.

In the General tab, what is listed?

Done as advised! I had Tiny Umbrella on the Laptop.

Saved SHSH's in the general tab listed is 4.1 and 4.3.3 and the iPhone info below it!

May i ask what to do next

    So far, that's good.
However please recheck blobs with Tiny Umbrella. You should have a 4.3.5 blob.

No 4.3.5 listed thru in a screen shot if that may help!
    Suggestions from here?

That's odd. PM your ECID (dec) and let me check.

Would i take from this that i should be able to restore to 4.3.3 and if so how from here?

Thanks for all the help so far :-)

That's what it means ...... however ....., something is wrong because 4.3.5 is not listed.

Apple is approving / signing 4.3.5. It should be there.

    This is what I found (4.1, 4.3.3, 4.3.5, and a bunch of 5.0 betas )

Note: Download the latest Tiny Umbrella and try again. When your results match mine, we can continue

I'm back. There are simpler ways, but let's do a custom firmware restore ...

Clean (edit/delete/remove) all gs.apple.com lines from the hosts file (old method, TU = new method)
    Download the latest sn0wbreeze (2.7.1+) and 3GS 4.3.3 ipsw.

Connect your iphone, allow iTunes to open (ignore everything it does for now).
Run Tiny Umbrella + TSS server. Verify TSS server is running & no errors.
    Power off iphone.
Run Sn0wbreeze, use expert mode, uncheck 'hactivate', build a custom firmware
Continue with sn0wbreeze, and enter pwnd-DFU mode.
Open iTunes (if not open), shift/select/restore with custom firmware.

Done. No iTunes errors should occur.
If you get an error, stop, and post

If the phone was unlocked by Vodafone, it should activate and go to the springboard.

Ultrasn0w (via Cydia) is required to fix the 1-bar signal issue. A cosmetic-only fix.

Mes your a legend I am going to tackle it straight away.

What is the best site for downloading IPSW's I have got a few crap downloads before and i use iClarified will a IPSW from there be ok?
When you say Clean (edit/delete/remove) the hosts file what should i have in there? At present mine says

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
    #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

Everything else i think I understand and can do!
    Thanks again!

    !
The links in my signature point to the latest versions. Always download the latest versions unless instructed otherwise.

Delete the last 3 lines (gs.apple.com) from your hosts file. The results should look like this:
    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
