Stuck in DFU mode, unless i choose "boot tethered" on redsn0w
So I have searched and searched for a solution everywhere but i have had no luck...I have an iPhone 3G S that was sitting on iOS 4 running the 4.26 baseband (unlock). I wanted to upgrade to the latest untethered jailbreak so i decided to goto 4.3.3 using pwnage tool. After doing so, my device went into endless DFU mode. My restore using the custom firmware went fine, but at the end, i never saw the Apple log, instead it was stuck in DFU mode.
I used Tiny Umbrella to put into TSS in order to restore the custom firmware. However i kept getting the 1600 error message. I looked it up and learned more about pwned DFU mode vs standard DFU mode. I decided to use redsn0w to JUST put into pwned DFU, and then enabled TSS, and then finally used iTunes to restore custom ipsw. And it was after that, i was stuck in DFU mode. I decided to choose the "boot tethered" option using redsn0w and it booted my device just fine and it kept my old baseband. When i rebooted to see if it kicked it out of endless recovery, it did not. My device had become tethered.
I must have done something wrong. What do I do to get it untethered again and on 4.3.3 with 4.26 baseband???

Make a new 4.1 custom firmware.
Put phone in pwned dfu state.
Shift restore from iTunes.

So I made the custom 4.1 using pwnage, and when i try to restore, i get error 1600. So I opened up redsn0w, and put it into Pwned DFU mode, and tried to restore it again. But this time i got a message saying "iPhone software server could not be contacted or is temp. unavailable"...So i launched TinyUmbrella and ran TSS server and then tried to restore, but then got error 28. From what I've read online, 28 is hardware related, but that seems crapshit to me considering there's absolutely nothing wrong with my computer....The error 28 comes after iTunes says "Verifying restore with Apple" or something like that...

Tried straight restore (Option held down), chose the 4.1 custom ipsw without Tiny Umbrella and i got 1600 error.
I then put it in pwned DFU using redsn0w (still no tiny umbrella), and got error 28 after hanging at "Verifying restore with apple" for about 30 seconds. In that process, my iPhone screen goes white, once the error shows up, it goes to black again
So before i was able to at least boot tethered using redsn0w, and now, i cant even do that. When trying, i just get frozen at white screen (with very faded lines on it)Last edited by Malik05; 08-22-2011 at 12:21 PM.

Any error in the 20's is very very bad. I've never been able to fix a phone with any error code in the 20's no matter how many times I've tried to restore factory or custom firmware. Like stated above.. it's a hardware problem error code which means a restore doesn't do any good b/c that's a software re-write.

Have you tried to restore to stock firmware of 4.1 yet and still get the same symptoms, remove the battery for 2mins and put it back, now restore again.
Edit: don't restore to stock yet as you need unlock. Do the remove battery and restore to custom firmware of 4.1 again.
After removing the battery and putting it back, your iPhone be go into recovery mode (iTunes cable logo) .Last edited by iYeow; 08-22-2011 at 12:45 PM.

Once you are in recovery mode, use the tools tout iPhone into pwned dfu mode and restore to cfw of 4.1, don't restore to stock fw or you will be locked out. While restoring to cfw of4.1, point hosts file towards apple server and this can be set through TU in adv tab and close TU.
Good...genius ..I thought you are a noob...

Yes, you exit TU, dont use tsp server cos you are verifying with apply for 4.1 blob. Put iPhone into pwned dfu using redsnow and restore to custom fw ofw 4.1 again.

Ok , while restoring , pull the cable out and do a reboot of your iPhone to see if you can get to iTunes cable logos.

Remove the battery again and try again. You need to restore to stock firmware to get your iphone to boot up if there isn't any hardware failure.

No luck :-/
this is not my primary phone, but rather a backup phone i have that i wanted to just update. Do you think waiting for iOS 5 jb would fix it (in a sense that Apple would be signing it)
Or just try to restore stock with latest firmware right now and lose the unlock as the only option...
Also, i cannot even boot tethered anymore...lolLast edited by Malik05; 08-25-2011 at 04:35 PM.
