3GS to 4.2.1 and tethering

I am on 3.1.2 with Base Band 05.11.07 and would like to go to 4.2.1.
I don't want apple to know I am tethering.

What baseband should I use and where do you get the files(new os and BB) to merge together to create a custom firmware?

What Baseband should I use for 4.2.1? What is easiest way to do this?

Apple doesn't care if you tether. However, your cellular carrier does, AT&T and now Verizon. Easy $$$

There is no known method to prevent tethering exposure. PDANet claims it will help, some have reported success, some not.

My recommendation, pay for it or don't use it. There's no guarantees.
