How to Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone 3G 4.2.1 (8C148) 05.15.04

Hi All,

I need some help and assistance. I am trying to Jailbreak and unlock the above. I read in a forum that it can be done using RedSnow 0.9.6 RC8 and the appropriate .ipsw but I cannot find RedSnow RC8 only RC18 and the phone freezes at the end and doesn't jailbreak. I have also read that it can be done but the GPS is perminently disabled.

What are my options if I want to keep my GPS? Please help my daughter needs a phone and I am not in a position to buy a new one.

I assume this will not disable my phone GPS?

Sorry one more question. What's the iPad bb? I'm a bit of a newbie at this.

Jailbreaking won't disable your gps. It's unlocking with the iPad baseband that affects it. iPad baseband as the name suggests is baseband of the iPad 3G .. Through an exploit it can be installed on 3G and 3GS with basebands that are not supported by ultrasn0w such as yours.. There are drawbacks ofcourse once you install it on your phone there is no way to go back to a normal iPhone baseband unless your 3G has 5.08 bootloader..
Ofcourse the gps is screwed :-)

Is there anyway to dowload a 5.08 bootloader? I would like to keep the GPS if I can

I dowloaded redSnow from the Megupload link but it is a .rar file and I cannot open it any suggestions?

I downloaded bitser and managed to unzip the .rar file.

I decided that I could live without the gps and think I have successfully jailbroken and unlocked the phone.

You might wanna downgrade to 3.1.3 it's the best firmware for a 3G

Yeah :-)
It's pretty simple ..
Download 3.1.3 Ipsw
Shift restore in iTunes
1015 error
Exit recovery from tinyumbrella
Jailbreak using Spirit
Download ultrasn0w from cydia
Done !!
