I have iphone 3g ios 4.2.1 i jailbroke it with redsn0w about 3 months ago. this morning I tried to open the sms app but it just crashes and wont open... Any ideas?
Generally things like this don't just happen overnight for no reason. I would use SB settings to go into safe mode and see if you can open SMS. If you can then it's a mobile substrate app conflict. If you still can't it might be a corrupted data file in which case you might have to restore from a backup in iTunes.
no dice... didn't run in safe mode. so basically my only option is to restore in itunes.... is it possible to restore in itunes as i have the 6.15.00 baseband. Someone was messing around in ifile last night would they have been able to cause this problem by something they did while in ifile?
the last time I installed anything through cydia was weeks ago and had no problems until now.
Of course someone messing around in iFile would cause issues. iFile is a total system file manager with the ability to go anywhere and delete or change anything. You definitely need to restore. You will need to build a custom firmware with sn0wbreeze (or pwnage tool for Mac) and restore using that. In the future I would hide any apps that people can "mess with" which access files including Cydia.
It was specifically the sms.db file that was accessed. Although I have used snowbreeze before I have never restored my phone since the BB switch. Is there a high probability that I will turn my phone into a paper weight?
Using iFile, navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS and rename sms.db to sms.db.SAVED
Exit iFile (Home button) and reboot. Now open SMS.
If it works, a new 'empty' sms.db is automatically created.
If it still crashes ... time to restore.
In sn0wbreeze, use Simple Mode, don't need the iPad BB option (already installed).
