Default Need help with my iphone 3GS 4.2.1

    Hi guys.
So ,i have my iphone in 4.2.1 ,jailbroken. My problem is that i don't know if i should up or downgrade it... Thing is ,it is somewhat slow, and i have read that this is caused by th 4.2.1 firmware (as it is 3GS and not 4).My brother and uncle ,however ,who know more than me on this subject ,tell me that it is because i have a lot of apps and games(somewhere around 4folders.) and tell me to upgrade it instead.I also have the problem with themes in 4.2.1 ,and i am afraid i will have in in higher fw as well :/ (i can't choose a background ,themes not working properly/not overriding the image i have selected for background or lockscreen). Please help me guys ,should i upgrade or downgrade? thanx a lot!

4.2.1 actually works a lot better then any higher firmware on your device. 4.3+ are where people tend to have issues when it comes to mistmatched fw and basebands. 4.3.3 fw is the highest you can go if you want to have an untethered jb.

That being said if you don't like 4.2.1 then you could always downgrade back to 4.1 since Apple is still currently signing it for the 3G/3GS.

Slow iPhones are usually caused by endless tweaks, themes, and various other adds and mods. Most play well together but some do not.

Most like 4.2.1. A fresh restore cleans everything and provides an opportunity for thoughful consideration before adding new stuff.

Yeah, I would just do fresh restore of 4.2.1 if u have blobs. I have 3GS with 4.2.1 jb'd with gp rc 6.1. My pre-swap 3GS I had updated to 4.3, 4.3.1 never jb'd. Horrible UI response. Swapped for unrelated issue. New one came with 4.2.1 still on it...as far as I can tell, I'll never update 3GS again!

How do you do a fresh restore?

If you want to restore to 4.2.1 again, you need 4.2.1 shsh blob or else you can't. But if you want 4.1 or 3.1.3, put your iphone into DfU mode , run itunes : shift + Restore to the firmware respectively.
You need Exit recovery from Tiny Umbrella to kick out error 1015.

Or you can try running iFaith if you don't get 4.2.1 blobs from TU. It can get the blobs off 4.2.1 from your phone as it is now. Then you can use it to create a signed ipsw file to restore with on iTunes. I have done this myself, but have not used it to restore yet, as my phone is working great.
