Upgrading from 4.2.1 to 4.3.3 without losing media, settings etc.
Hi,
I have previously attempted a restore using a stock but not latest ios ipsw file but that ended up nuking all my media...
Before i attempt on my new phone, can someone tell me if this is the right steps so I can upgrade a non-jb'd iphone 4 from 4.2.1 to 4.3.3 without having to re-copy all media afterwards (I don't have my i sync'd to the computer).
1. Download the 4.3.3 firmware
2. Update itunes to latest version
3. Connect phone to itunes
4. Click on Alt+restore (i'm on mac)
5. Select the 4.3.3 ispw
6. Let the thing do its thing
I don't remember if I need to put the i into DFU mode before... please help!
Will my 4.2.1 backup be recognized by 4.3.3 in case the upgrade removes all settings and media? Does the backup also save media?
Thanks for helping out!

You missed one step, you need to run Tiny Umbrella with saved 4.3.3 shsh blob and start tss server before you run itunes, otherwise error 3194 will pop up.

Crap... I guess I'm hooped for 4.3.3. cause TU tells me cydia doesn't have the blobs for this particular version. Do the blobs only get saved for the fw version currently running on the device?
I read iFaith can save the blobs for previous fw versions... But if I get this right, I would need to have 4.3.3 installed on the device before using iFaith to store the 4.3.3 SHSH blobs. Which brings me back to the original question I posed, and the answer from iYeow that I need TU with the 4.3.3 blobs stored. Catch 22? Or am I missing something? THanks!!Last edited by shitalot; 07-30-2011 at 04:27 PM.

If you missed saving 4.3.3 blob , then you can't use ifaith cos you must be at 4.3.3 to save it. You can only save 4.2.1 . So restoring to 4.3.3 is no longer possible.
