File recovery on a restored iPhone
Hi,
During a jail break attempt, something went wrong and I wanted to restore the phone to a backup I had done in iTunes just before the jail break. Unfortunately, I thought "Restore"-button would restoring from a backup and not do a factory reset, so now I have lost all my pictures and videos from the last 1½ years.
I have now created an image of the iphones memory using dd and have run Recuva and PhotoRec on it, but nothing shows up.
Is this because the phone gets completely wiped during a restore?

Yes. Everything's gone.
However, maybe a data backup exists. From iTunes left-panel, right-click on you phone and select 'Restore from backup".
Good luck.
Edit: Unfortunately, the backup could be empty because it contains the last backup. Just depends up whether or not a sync was done after the restore.Last edited by Mes; 07-30-2011 at 03:21 PM.

A restore puts your iphone into default factory settings.
