attempted jailbreak help please

i finally upgraded from the 3g ancient and got the 4, well i was attempting to jailbreak my old 3g and use it for an ipod and i was attempting with greenpoison, i have figured out that it was for 3g and my phone will not turn on or anything, i could use some help here on how to correct this i am a partial newb so anything is appreciated thanks guys
