how to "start from scratch" on 4.2.1?
I'm having some serious slowness with my 4.2.1. This slowness gets so severe that at times I can't answer a call and/or get periods of lag so long that I have to restart the phone or just try to wait it out. This can sometimes be resolved temporarily by killing all processes besides messages/phone and always be resolved temporarily by restarting my phone.
I'm looking for guidance. It wasn't happening until a few months ago, and to troubleshoot I've tried deleting all the cydia apps which I'm not using and it's a little better but definitely still happening. I can't think of any one app that I installed when I started noticing it, so I'm grasping at straws. There are also some other minor quirks which I can live with but the slowness is not only annoying, it could be dangerous if I have to wait for a 3-5 minute restart to make an emergency call.
I'd prefer NOT to reinstall my firmware, but I'm willing to do it as a last resort - if it's even possible.
I have recently learned that I can't upgrade to 4.3.3 or any other version in between my current version and 4.3.3 since I have no SHSH saved.
What should be my first step?

You should turn ON memory status in Sbsettings and turn ON memory usage in sb options.
If the RAM runs low, double tap Home button and close the unused apps and your RAM goes back up.

That's exactly what I've been doing, but I shouldn't have to be constantly closing apps just to use the device normally. This happens literally all the time, with anything open, even just safari. It doesn't always work, only sometimes.
It's actually a 4 guys...
There has got to be a better solution than to be using sbsettings to kill processes and free up memory all day. Right?Last edited by webnola; 07-28-2011 at 01:02 AM.

where to get iFaith from? I tried ih8snow.com but it links to this page for the download which gives an error message that it's no longer available

Ok, so I got iFaith, dumped my blob, but can't create a signed ipsw. Both the ipsw that iFaith has me download AND one that I found on TPB both give me the error "Invalid 4.2.1 (8C148) IPSW for the iPhone 4!"
This is a nightmare. Any ideas?

wait, what? are you talking about the latest latest firmware (4.3.4 / 4.3.3) or the latest 4.2.1 firmware? If it's the latter, how do I find out what the latest 4.2.1 firmware is?
