tinyumbrella 3194 cannot start tss server
I have a big probalem with tinyumbrella
I can open tinyumbrella
But when i open it says
"Request SHSH From Cydia" is currently set
This can cause issues if you are trying to save current SHSHs as Cydia is no longer able to reliably proxy SHSH requests
Please change your setting in the 'Advanced ' tab and click the Apply Changes' button or use the 'Edit' menu to apply changes first
Then it says
Cannot Start TSS Service
Do not try and restoring your Device!!!!
C
Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts is not writable!
Then in the program it says Tinyumbrellas Tss server is not running
Please help I have only 10 days b4 i go home and my friend really wants me to jailbreak his phone plus its running really buggy atm because i tried jailbreaking it on redsn0w and it didnt work it needs a restore badly

Right click the hosts file > properties > un-check read-only > Ok
Now open TU

Probable causes:
1) Not administrator or do not have administrator privileges to write to the file.
2) Read-only
3) The security permissions are not set correctly. (Properties/Security)
4) A virus. Check for other files with a same name 'hosts' but with a different extension.
Check, correct as necessary, and try again

Its called hosts.txt
I also have another file called
Imhosts.txt
Im on a 64 bit windows seven i heard that could be causing the problem?
Any ideas?

1) hosts file should not have an extension.
2) I believe the two other 'hosts' files pose no virus risk.
3) The hosts file should contain "127.0.0.0.1 localhost". It's missing .... not good
Something has modified hosts which typically occurs with a virus or browser hijacker (both considered viruses)
TU will not run correctly if the hosts file is not-writable.

Do a google search on browser attacks. They regularly attack the hosts file.
This is the minimum requirements for a hosts file:
# #
# Notes: The Operating System does not read the "#" symbol #
# You can create your own notes, after the # symbol #
# This *must* be the first line: 127.0.0.1 localhost #
# #
127.0.0.1 localhost

hey everyone sorry to bump this old thread but I currently have this problem
I am Administrator on the PC
The host files are NOT "read only"
TU 5.10.12
what I think my problem is that I don't even have the host file anymore, I previously used TU to downgrade my old iPhone4 but then had to remodify a host file a while after to update my iPod touch as it kept throwing an iTunes error code.
Can someone confirm what files *should* be in the system32/drivers/etc/ folder ? I have only these files.
" lmhosts -SAM FILE"
" networks -FILE"
" protocol -FILE"
" services -FILE"
IDK WTF is up, any help is appreciated, thanks.
