Error 1015, tried using Recboot, iReb, fixRecovery
Please Help!
I wanted to sell my iphone 3gs and therefore had to remove all the personal data (sms, emails, contacts). I thought the “Erase All Content and Settings” would be the best option. Once I clicked that the iphone became unresponsive for about 1.5 hrs. I thought it was stuck and so I restarted it, and ever since then I’ve faced a series of unfortunate events. I m just not able to fix it…
The iphone was jailbroken with baseband 6.15.0 and I can’t exactly remember the firmware, but I know it was 4.X.X.
I’ve tried restoring it to both original (directly from itunes) and custom firmware 4.2.1, 4.3 and 4.3.4 (from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download) via iTunes, and I keep getting error 1015.
I’ve tried Recboot, iReb, fixRecovery43 to fix this and nothing seems to work, the phone is stuck at a screen with the usb cable and itunes logo
Please help and let me know whether there’s a way out…
Thanks,

Are you running tiny umbrella's tss server when doing the restore from itunes??
1. Use iReb and put your device into pwned DFU state
2. Open TinyUmbrella and click on Start TSS Server button
3. Open iTunes and Shift/Restore and select appropriate custom firmware
4. After recovery you'll likely get the 1015 error. Just kick the device out using Fix Recovery

Use the pwned dfu mode to put your iphone into dfu mode

What version of custom firmware did you restore to?
Are you restoring to custom fw of 4.3.3 ?
Do you know if you have 4.3.3 shsh blob ?
Are you using Tss Server to restore and have you downloaded 4.3.3 shsh blob onto TU yet ?
Have you check mark or tick > set hosts file to cydia yet ?Last edited by iYeow; 07-23-2011 at 11:08 PM.

ihappy please help, i tried ur method after trying iYeow's method,
1. i first put the iphone in pwned dfu state using Redsnow 0.9.6 RC 9 (i hope its the same thing whether u use iReb or Redsnow to put the device in pwned dfu state)
2. i then ran tinyumbrella TSS server
3. opened itunes and pressed shift restore and selected custom 4.2.1 firmware which i got from warez-bb.
4. everything seemed to be goin fine, the iphone showed me that progress bar, the bar reached 100% and as soon it did the iphone just went blank. Im really freakin im not sure
whats wrong exactly...
im not sure whether the hardware is busted of whether the iphone is in dfu state, when i try to restore via itunes again, it does detect the device but wehn restoring give me error 1600.
please help!
thank you

Tell me what shsh blob have you downloaded from Cydia. Don't use somebody's cfw, create your own.

This may be your problem right here: custom 4.2.1 firmware which i got from warez-bb.
Sometimes, usually more then most these custom fws from unreliable sources can do more harm than good.
Try using this one: iPhone 3GS 4.2.1 - Downloads - ModMyi Forums and making a custom fw using sn0wbreeze and then redo the method I stated above
The guide here will help you and give you the correct Sn0wbreeze 2.2 to make the custom 4.2.1 firmware

@iYeow: the thing is, my iphone was already in restore state with no slider when i started this whole process, therefore i cud download shsh blob from cydia
@ihappy: the issue now is that the iphone is blank, its not turning on when i press the power button, or even when i press the power + home button.

Then do this :
To save your shsh blob without a bootable device or have not used TU to save this idevice , do the followings below :
You have to retrieve your ECID :
Put your iphone into recovery mode , yours is already in recovery mode so you need have to do this.
Now Click Start and type Device Manager
Scroll to Universal Bus Controller
Highlight Apple Mobile Device USB
Right click properties
Scroll to Device Instance Path
Move the bottom cursor to the right
You will see your 16 digits ECID
Copy that and paste onto the ECID section of TU
Make sure in TU : request shsh from Apple or uncheck > request shsh from cydia.
Click Save shsh.
You are now done saving 4.3.4 blob and all future blobs.
Note : Sorry, just checked you can still retrieve ECID from DFU modeLast edited by iYeow; 07-23-2011 at 11:43 PM.

Ok i tried the ECID method above and as per ihappy's instructions i used snowbreeze to create custom roms for 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.3, i tried all these custom roms.
After starting TSS Server i tried to Shift + Restore custom firmware onto the iphone the snowbreeze logo appeared on the device along with the progress bar. the progress managed to reach 100% and then nothing happened after that, the iphone did not come out of dfu mode... help please

as per your instructions i used snowbreeze to create custom roms for 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.3, i tried restoring all these custom roms.
After starting TSS Server i tried to Shift + Restore custom firmware onto the iphone the snowbreeze logo appeared on the device along with the progress bar. the progress managed to reach 100% and then nothing happened after that, the iphone was still blank, i think it was still in dfu mode, so i turned it on by pressing power + home button and then the same "usb cable + itunes logo" screen came up...
please reply...
thanks

i did all the custom 4.2.1 rom and sn0wbreeze, ireb, etc and here's my story.
i did this procedure last night and it works:
1. using itunes, restore to 4.3.4. you will get 1015 error.
2. now go to redsn0w_win_0.9.8b4, and since you're already on baseband 6.15, choose install cydia only. follow the instruction to go into dfu. it should either load up and get stuck on "install activation bundles" or if it goes to a bunch of codes and "Please wait..." shows up, redo the process.
3. finally use tinyumbrella to kick out of recovery (‪How to Fix 'Installing Activation Bundle Freeze' With RedSn0w‬‏ - YouTube).
remember it's tethered, so you must use redsn0w to boot tether every time you turn the phone off and on.
4.3.4 6.15 won't get you the unlock for other carriers yet. i did use tinyumbrella and use my saved shsh blob to go back to 4.2.1 for carrier unlock.Last edited by alphafx7; 07-25-2011 at 09:46 PM.
