Default Completely Stuck! Cydia crash - no afc2add

Hi, I used blackra1n ages ago. MY phone had been fine since. Now recently, my MxTube decided not to connect to YouTube, so I thought it needed updating. So I went to open up Cydia, for the first time is agesssss. It just crashes at the loading data screen.

So I searched for fixes, and read about manually deleted files... Which is fine, except I don't have the afc2add file, because of blackra1n, so I'm stuck. Is there anyway I can add this file without Cydia? As I cannot access my iPhones root folders, in order to delete the files to get Cydia working again? I DON'T want to have to reset and have to download all of my apps all over again.

Cheers if anyone has any ideas!

Do you have SSH installed on that iPhone? If you do, you can either delete crap manually or if you've got the necessary package installed, run "apt-get upgrade" followed by "apt-get update all" and upgrade your software packages that way.

If not, you might be able to send the tarball (https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files -- look for "ssh2_bundle.tgz") over via redsn0w's "Custom Bundle" option--don't know how well that'll work on iOS 3.1.2 though.

if you can download the afc2add file to the device somehow, with safaridownloadmanager or some other app (there are some free 'flash drive' apps in the app store), you can install it with ifile or mobileterminal

Even if you can install afc2add, and go delete some files which you think might be the cause, it may not solve your Cydia crashing. I would suggest a restore, but sync with itunes first before restoring.

Thanks alot for the replies guys!

I don't have SSH installed or anything. I don't even have the afc2add file itself, even if there was a way to manually install it.

I have an old 8gb iPhone, running the 3.1.2 firmware. So maybe it's just worth an update?

Hopefully someone can answer these n00by Q's for me...

If this is the best option, what program can I use to jailbreak & unlock my phone after updating? - Is the program straight-forward? (I've heard of redsn0w - but I can't find any download links!) - I NEED to make sure whatever I use, will allow me to keep the SIM card I'm currently using.

I have quite a few apps that I've bought, I'm assuming these will be all wiped? If I write them down, can I redownload them for free, since they'll obviously be on my account as paid for anyway?

A few of my apps won't open anyway, I think they need a newer firmware, since I updated them via the appstore!

Anything else I should know, as I can't think of anything else to ask?

    Thanks.

Do you need unlock? You currently have an unlockable baseband. If you want to preserve it, then you have to restore to custom firmware.
