Upgrading jailbroken 3.1.2 to 4.x.x

Hi, I have a jailbroken 3gs on the 3.1.2 firmware (used blackrain). I'm going to be out of the country so I won't have black rain handy for when my phone dies. This is why I need to upgrade to 4.x.x. Is there a way to do this while keeping all my jailbroken items? Can I get a step by step tutoriAl?

There are ways to back up jailbroken apps, but the methods escape me at the moment

OR you can use Snowbreeze 2.7.3 to create a custom firmware of 4.3.3 to be restored through itunes.
