Iphone 4.2.1 upgtrade frustration

Morning all. I haven't had to restore in some time now but i don't remember ever having issues. But its been awhile so im sure i have over looked something simple. My GF's iphone4 is on 4.0 i believe and wanted to go to 4.2.1 Last night tried shift restore to upgrade and no matter what i just kept getting 1013 error. After doing some reading, a lot of people said you need to edit Host and remove any line that has gs.apple.com. I thought at one point we had to put that there to redirect to Cydia server? So...do i remove it?
Yes, have all the SHSH blobs saved. I have used this machine to do my phones all the time. Just wanted to check with you guys first.

Are you using TinyUmbrella and using your SHSH's to restore to 4.2.1?

Thanks. Yeah i tried a bunch of different ways. Finally got it last night so its all working . Thanks
