Lost and searching. Jailbreak Iphone 3g on 4.2.1

Alright, I've been putting it off for a while and I'm looking to jailbreak my iphone 3g on ios 4.2.1.

I've searched the forums and found differing information on what jailbreak I "should" do. But I'm looking for a straightforward-ish answer and hopefully will be able to stumble through jailbreaking on my own.

I own a 3g on 4.2.1, I do not require to unlock my phone as i am on at&t.

What's the easiest jailbreak to use? redsn0w or greenp0ison? And most importantly what version? And does either have a significant issue with battery life (last time I jailbroke my phone [jailbreakme] died constantly until I restored to factory ios).

I appreciate any help at all, I know that a jailbreak on this phone would probably the last I would have to do.

Jailbreak your 4.2.1 with Redsn0w RC8 and don't use GreenPoison for your 3g at 4.2.1

I'm sorry to bother you again. But it looks like redsn0w 0.9.6 rc8 is tethered. Is there an untethered jailbreak for the 3g on 4.2.1?
