    Default 4.3.3 on 2.10.04 bb

    hey all,

so i decided to upgrade my 4.1 to 4.3.3 and almost had a massive heart attacked. weird story and i think this is too new for anyone to experience this, so here is my story and my concern.

I followed the instructions to the very last period and all of sudden, using redsn0w my phone froze at "activation bundles" and i had to go through a loop of getting of recovery mode and jb.

somehow i managed to have a complete install of the jb after unfreezing the jb-ing process by holding down the power button and released it when the apple logo appeared.

then it suddenly installed with out the pineapple logo but with the apple logo and the white bar. next you know my activation just flew by and I've upgraded to 4.3.3 while maintaining my 2.10.04 bb.

The weird thing is on itunes it usually shows your phone number, well mine didn't. instead it showed my ICID and then later when i was synching it showed my ICID and my identifier (UDID). i don't know why this is but i think its strange. So i go to my Settings > General > Carrier, and under my carrier it says "NOT AVAILABLE", but my phone shows AT&T but only 1 bar!

i don't know if there is a link between this, but i find it odd. If anyone has any ideas or has come across this themselves, do you think i should just restore back to 4.1?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and responding!

    p.s.

I can have incoming and outgoing calls but only with 1 bar on my ip4. I normally have full bars or atleast a couple bars, hardly just a single bar unless im somewhere else other than home.

    EDIT:
So i decided to restore to 4.2.1 and now my phone is fully functional. I tried installign ultrasn0w on 4.3.3 and this did not fix the single signal bar issue. I've rejailbroken it to see if this will correct the carrier issue, nope this time I had no carrier so I couldn't rcv/make calls. that was when I decided to try out 4.2.1 and it worked out fine!

if anyone has any success upgrading to 4.3.3, I would love to read how you did it!

not sure about the carrier saying not available but install ultrasn0w to fix the signal bar issue (at least that's what fixes it on 4.3.2), you might want to try restoring again to 4.3.3 and re-jailbreak to see if you can get a clean jailbreak to possibly fix the other issue

i really can't unlock because im on 2.10.04 bb and I am with AT&T and so having it unlock would be the cherry on top for me. but i do like to have my ice cream (jailbroken)

Hi, I have a similar problem. I used pwnage tool on my mac to update my iphone 4 to 4.3.3 while preserving baseband 2.10.04. The signal bar either shows one bar or no service. When going to settings > general > about, network shows "not available". I am using Fido, which is the official carrier I got my iphone from. I have done a number of things with no luck and here are my conclusions. I hope someone more knowledgeable than me can figure this out and find a solution. Here are my findings:

My SIM card is working fine
    - I've gone to Fido, tried my card on another iphone 4 and it works. Other micro-sims on my iphone 4 still produces 1 bar, no service.

It is not the "signal bar problem" a lot of other people are getting that can be fixed with ultrasn0w
    - even though ultrasn0w 1.2.3 can't unlock baseband 2.10.04 it is suppose to fix a signal bar display problem. I have tried installing ultrasn0w and nothing happens.

    Possible inquiries.
    - I had a suspicion that the official firmware was corrupted so I looked for another copy of 4.3.3 for iphone 4. The first copy I used was 698.6MB. The second copy was 666MB. Both produced the same results. Both copies say 4.3.3 (8J2). ****for those who don't know 8J2 is the build. But could both these files be corrupt? Could this be what is causing all the problems?****

    - I have not yet used the either copies of the official firmware to update official OS and baseband. I have only been creating custom firmware via pwnage tool. I want to preserve my baseband for the upcoming unlock such that I can use my iphone when I visit Hong Kong next month.

    - To my knowledge(I could be wrong) SIM cards should still work on 4.3.3 with baseband 2.10.04. If I am wrong, updating to the official 4.3.3 and 4.10.01 baseband could solve my current problem.

Any pros out there with suggestions and possible solutions?

I was wondering if you could restore back to 4.2.1 without SHSH blobs?

since you are both on official carrier make sure that the custom firmware you are building is "not" activated, also you can update to official using tinyumbrella to preserve your baseband

Installing ultrasn0w on your system will skip the unlock process, but should still fix the "one bar signal only, but the phone is working with the network" bug.

No way back to 4.2.1 without SHSH blobs and have a usable device.

To check integrity of a file (such as an IPSW) run a digest algorithm (hash) on the file, such as SHA-1. The SHA-1 hash for the 4.3.3 iPhone 4 IPSW is b2e221543f24a66209c70e8465d037fe22afeefa and the file is exactly 698,558,606 bytes. Generally speaking, a corrupt IPSW will fail the signature checks Apple places on the restore process, so you will not be able to restore to a corrupt IPSW.

The one-bar problem you're having may stem from a bad activation. Make sure you're building IPSWs without "activate the phone" checked, and that iTunes is officially activating your iPhone with a Fido SIM in it (e.g., you're getting passed the Emergency Call Only screen only after you connect your phone to iTunes with the SIM in it).

PS: Baseband 02.10.04 cannot currently be unlocked via ultrasn0w. Fido supposedly offers official unlocking for $50 CAD (and some conditions), but that (or buying an unlocked iPhone in Canada/Hong Kong) are your only real alternatives to getting an iPhone working there without roaming charges.

The bad activation was indeed the problem. Building the custom ipsw without activate solved the problem. Thank you.

    Hi all!

I updated my iphone 4 iOS 4.1 baseband 02.10.04 to 4.3.3 via snowbreeze 2.7.3 with baseband preservation. Then I activated it with redsnow 0.9.6rc16 to skip emergency call screen. After turning it on I lost gps and had one bar signal. Then I fixed signal with ultrasnow 1.2.3.

Does anybody know about gps issue?

It can be a jailbreak that didn't completely go well, or a hardware failure. Restore and rejb and see if the problem still exists. Be sure not to restore from back up.

It seems that it was restore from backup that caused my gps not working. Now my gps shows my location more precisely than before, will test it outside thoroughly today. Thanks for the help!

PS I will lose all my contacts, personal data, apps etc if I will choose setup as new phone in itunes?

You will not lose your contacts, calendars , notes and apps as those stuffs are stored by itunes in your computer, just sync it back.

You'll lose your photos/videos though if you didn't back them up into your computer manually. If that's the case you can probably create a backup right now while it's set up as new, then restore to the old backup and SSH in to retrieve your photos/videos, then choose to restore from the backup again but this time select the new backup you just created.

You know what? Now I have battery drainage problem lol)))) I have already tried few methods from google like disabling ping and hard reset without any results. But it worked fine when I had restored from backup in itunes after restoring.

    Do you have any ideas?)

Its possible the battery drainage is coming from being on an updated firmware and not being on the correct baseband. There is nothing special about the 02.10 baseband since its not unlockable but could very well be the reasoning why. I would say update the firmware and the baseband so they will match but the choice is really yours.

As I said it worked fine when I restored it from my itunes backup after update to 4.3.3. Battery drainage has happened after setting up iphone as new.

I decided to jailbreak iphone once again to determine when battery issue appears and found out that it is after installing ultrasnow to fix one bar signal issue.
