Stock means not custom. Redsn0w does not read custom firmwares.

The steps are for restoring and rejailbreaking.

but most of the website that we download the firmwares are all.ipsw which is custom firmware.are we able to download stock firmware files and what format is it in ?

.ipsw does not mean it is a custom fw. That's the format that any firmware stock or custom is in.

You can get a stock fw from the downloads section here on MMi or at felixbruns.de

but usually i jailbeak or restore my phone i download the firmware files from iclarified,byt the stock files are not firmware right !

I suppose so. I don't know exactly where you are referring to on iClarified nor do I know if they host custom fw but yes they do host stock firmwares.

Stock files are firmwares, not sure what you mean by they are not?

I'm pretty sure iClarified hosts stock firmwares but not custom, but I dunno I only download stock firmwares and make my own custom.

I don't remember what the original problem was that you are experiencing. I saw you said you are having the same problem as the OP. are you on the same device then with the same fw and bb?

yes i'm using iphone 3g and on 4.2.1 fw and yes having the same issue as OP.so still sourcing for help and doing research,lolx.
