    Yes, if you use a custom firmware (PwnageTool is recommended, sn0wbreeze will work too).

    what do you mean by using PwnageTool or snow breeze? the only method i know is using tinyumbrella then starting itunes, then shift+click to choose the custom firmware.

    You don't need a custom firmware at all. Just click start TSS server and restore in itunes

    Since you don't have the iPad bb (not that you could on that device) you're free to restore to stock or custom 4.2.1. Doesn't matter which method you use bc it's apparent the bb has no significance to you. You don't need to unlock I mean.

    Except I'm pretty sure that version check will hit the above-version baseband on 4.2.1 too, but... -shrug- Exit Recovery should handle it.

    Greenpois0n should kick it out of recovery mode just fine as well.

    thanks for all the inputs. before updating to 4.3.3, i was on 4.1, then when i updated to 4.2.1 using tinyumbrella that's when the problem started. i could not kick it out of recovery mode using tinyumbrella. i got stock where it says "allow device to reboot" but nothing happens. i actually also had a hardtime restoring, i kept getting error 3194.

    @i.annie
    i prefer actually a stock 4.2.1, is this still possible?
    is there a greenpoison software for recovery kick out?

    @orbyorb
    how do i exit recovery mode?

    i downloaded my custom firmware from this site iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download, is there another site i can get custom firmware or stock?

    The site you linked to is stock firmware, not custom. Just FYI.

    To answer your other question: the "Exit Recovery" is a button in TinyUmbrella. Put your recovery-looping device in DFU, hit that button, and you should boot out of it. Annie's suggestion of running greenpois0n post-restore should also work.

    If I'm not mistaken felixbruns.de hosts stock firmware.

    If you went to stock 4.2.1, running greenpois0n on it takes it out of recovery mode. You also jb it at the same time. If you have an official sim or are with official carrier all you do is activate in iTunes after that. Then install Cydia with the loader on the springboard.

    is this possible?
    1. i will download the stock firmware from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
    2. will use tinyumbrella to restore to 4.2.1
    3. then jb using greenpoison.

    or do i need a custom firmware?

    Your steps should work, as long as you put your iPhone in DFU mode between steps 2 and 3 (should be in the instructions of greenpois0n, but it can't hurt to repeat it).

    Custom firmware shouldn't be needed, but if you're having issues with getting greenpois0n to work, you may find the custom firmware easier to work with.

    Hello, I have a similar problem and need some help... I had 4.2.1 working on my iPhone 3G but it was sluggish and glitchy so I downgraded to 3.1.3 and never saved any shsh blobs... Now I have an issue with my favorite game not being compatible and need to upgrade to at least 4.0 but keep getting an error in Itunes when I try to update, or custom restore it gives an unknown error 14...

    **Update**
    I am now stuck in recovery mode after updating my Itunes and then clicking restore (error 1015).. So I tried a custom restore since I have an updated baseband 6.15 and still am in recovery mode (error 1604).. Please help!

    **Update 2**
    I have it working now.. I had to use recboot after a custom install of 4.1, hopefully it won't be to sluggish.. I can't wait for the Iphone 5 to be released so that I can stop using this slow 3G piece of crap.. Thanks anyway!!
