Iphone 3g, running 4.2.1-Need Cydia back
Okay, so I was having some pretty bad performance/hang issues with my previous hack, so I bit the bullet and let iTunes upgrade me to 4.2.1-which seems to have fixed those issues.
Now I would like to get Cydia and my Cydia apps back. That's really the only thing that I'm concerned with.
Can anyone tell me what the easiest way to do this is?
Thanks

I've been trying with GP, but this things appears to refuse to go into DFU mode(and instead goes into recovery mode). If I'm stuck in recovery, can I still try to get into DFU without restoring?

Yes. DFU is always accessible (as long as your hardware isn't seriously broken).
This may sound trite, but make sure you're timing your button pushes correctly. It's exactly ten seconds holding both buttons, and exactly ten seconds holding just the home button (shorter if your iTunes pops up and tells you a device is in Recovery mode).
PS: iTunes calls both "Recovery Mode" (connect to iTunes logo on screen) and "DFU" (totally black screen, like the device is off) "Recovery mode" in its prompts...

Thanks. I know how exact the timing has to be(been through this a couple times, and it always seems to take a couple hours(kill me) to nail DFU mode. I've been following the timing prompts on GreenP to 1/10th of a second & still missing it.
When you're in restore mode, is there any way to know if it's actually off(vs. restore mode)? I know it will if you connect it to itunes, but if that's the case, I can't get mine to power down because IT recognizes it every time I plug it in. This question is all assuming that when I start the GP process, that the phone HAS to powered off(vs. restore).
Thanks!

Actually, I'd start the DFU by plugging in your iPhone via USB, then shutting it off to start the 10+10 process...
I'd use redsn0w if I were you--I don't think greenpois0n works on the 3G, now that I think about it...

Actually, you're right-it doesn't support 3G (but does 3GS)
Time to give RS a shot
Booyah! Finally got it with redsn0w 9.6rc14.
I had some issues with it crashing mid way through and it may have due to 3 things. On Win7, select "run as administrator", temporarily disable your virus scanner, and if that doesn't fix it-try disabling your firewall.Last edited by tahoe22; 05-08-2011 at 12:08 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
