Default iPhone 3G boot logo loop

well, like the title says. I've got a 3g that keeps looping on the boot logo. Phone is on boot logo, does a flash then goes back to the boot logo again. Phone did work but homebutton didn't, so I fixed the home button.. Phone died while I was waiting for the part to come in. Once it got fixed, charged phone and that's when the boot logo problem started. I've tried everything, literally. I've tried 4.1 restore and kick out of recovery with tinyumbrella and also iREC method. Restore fresh with 4.2.1. I've put it in DFU for restore.. Held home button and plugged cable in til it goes into restore. Did the jailbreak and boot out of tether.. Installed custom firmware.. Both my macbook and windows desktop can't seem to get it out of the boot logo. So is there anything else I can try? Any suggestions or other methods I haven't tried would be appreciated.. And no I don't have the shsh files for it.. also sorry if i posted this in the wrong thread

It's a 3G, correct? Apple is still signing 4.2.1 for the 3G, so no worries there.

It's not hanging at the boot screen for 10+ minutes and never rebooting; it's just puttering along for a bit, then rebooting, then hanging again, right?

Did you have SSH installed in your custom firmware? What you can try and do is if you did, just SSH into the device and send a manual "halt" or "reboot" command (as the root user). That usually fixes most reboot loops.

If not, you can always restore from DFU again, preferably to a stock firmware (unless you need to preserve baseband, then I'd recommend either a stock 3.1.3 or a PwnageTool-made custom firmware).

i tried 3.1.3, got it to the emergency slide screen but then it freezes. so i do a reset with the power and home button and it gets stuck on the boot logo again then flashed and goes to a white screen. i did actually get it once with 4.2.1 using recboot, but then it froze and did the boot logo again. custom firmwares dont work either.. and i dont really understand how i could ssh into the phone when its on the boot logo.. dont i need the an IP address to ssh into the phone?!?

Yes, but if you've got control of the router assigning IP addresses on your local network, then you can just check what IP your phone has (and the DHCP leases on most home networks tend to be fairly long, so the IP won't randomly change usually).

Well, if you're restoring this phone to multiple firmwares (stock and custom both from DFU) and you're still not getting anywhere, our options are limited. You can try and let the phone completely drain its battery (or open the phone up and remove the battery from the board), and try a DFU restore again, or you can try your luck getting a warranty swapout with Apple (hanging on the bootlogo usually will prompt a swap if you're on a stock OS).
