I cant find any old post about this maybe the issue is very old but is there any cure for this?

Do u want to fix grey wifi? i don't think u can...but if u wanna unlock there is a no wifi unlock solution...

Wifi greyed out can be due to the custom firmware you restored. Create another one from snowbreeze 2.5.1 or Pwnage tools 4.2 and restore to it.

snowbreeze 2.5.1 will not work with ios4.2.1

Why not? Then another custom fw of 4.2.1 from the net .
When you restore to custom firmware , you should use dfu pwner from redsnow .
OR
Put your iPhone into normal dfu mode
Restore to stock 3.1.3
Exit recovery from feature of TU to error 1015.
Jailbreak with redsnow 0.9.4 or jailbreakme.com
Now check your wifi status
Hopefully no longer greyed out.
If it is still greyed out after restoring to stock firmware, then you may have a hardware issue

Thanks for all the help. I am downloading 3.1.3 and will give it a try but can you explain what is about getting out of recovery mode? Cant I just use Tinyumbrellla?

U use exit recovery from TU to kick out error 1015

did this manage to fix the wifi issue for you ? I have the same issue so a reply would be greatly appreciated. I hate not having wifi and i cant do anything about it
