    Default iPhone 2g Cydia issue

    Evening friends,

Wife refuses to let me upgrade her original iPhone. Running 3.1.2 fw and jailbroken with blackrain.

When I try to access Cydia it starts as usual then closes out. Will not let me go any further. Does anyone know the reason for this or any remedies. Thanks in advance!

Do you know what version of Cydia you're running?

I can think of one fairly common issue that causes what you're reporting: a RAM shortage (either from Cydia from running for too long, or Cydia's got too much data it's trying to load, or the device just ran through its very small 128 MB supply of RAM).

What you can try to do is install the new Cydia version over SSH. SSH in as the root user, then go to /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall (create any directories that aren't present on your phone along the way) and drop in the .deb file. Reboot the phone, and that'll help a lot.

If you're rocking the current version of Cydia, you can always try a "killall Cydia" (sometimes "Cydia_") and then try running Cydia again.

PS: You can download Cydia from here.
