Here's a little background: I was planning to update 4.0.1 to 4.3.2 using sn0wbreeze 2.6.1. So I did the making of custom firmware and also followed the on-screen instructions of iREB to go into DFU mode (yes, I did it correctly several times and the phone does have a black screen). The next step should be opening up iTunes which will automatically detect my phone in DFU (recovery mode) and then I'd be able to do the restore process.
Well that's where I'm stuck, iTunes doesn't detect the phone in DFU mode. I tried EVERYTHING: reinstalled iTunes (including mobile device helper), unplugged and plugged the data cable.... but nothing helped.
Note here that when I get back to normal running mode, iTunes detects my phone.
Can anybody help me with this ?
My system: Jailbroken iPhone 4 (firmware 4.0.1)
Windows XP SP3
Pentium 4 3.06 GHz, 512 MB RAM
iTunes 10.2.2
Use Redsn0w 0.9.6 rc6 , browse to stock 4.1 Ipsw, check only dfu box, perform this action until you see a message dfu done.
Now run ilatest iTunes and restore to cfw of 4.3.2 fw.
Thanks for your quick reply. I'd love to click on the "thanks" button but I've got a few questions (I'm a newbie !).
1. I'm using unofficial SIM and so need to hacktivate my phone and use ultrasn0w to unlock it. So will this process affect that hacktivation/jailbreak ?
2. What's cfw and fw ? ()
3. rc6 seems to be a very old version and is hard to find. Is it okay if I use any later version ?
^To retain unlock capabilities ... a custom ipsw (cfw) must be loaded -- always!!
Custom ipsws are built using PwnageTool or Snowbreeze. Several build options (like hactivation) are available in the custom ipsw. To load a custom ipsw, the phone must be in a special pwn'd DFU mode. PwnageTool, Redsn0w and/or Snowbreeze are the best for entering pwn'd DFU mode. iTunes (shift/select custom ipsw) loads the custom ipsw. All PwnageTool/Redsn0w/Sno0wbreeze versions are different. The correct version must be used for the desired iOS.
Note: On Windows, select "Run As Administrator" when using PwnageTool/Redsn0w/Sn0wbreeze.
Okkay.......problem solved. I didn't know that you need an internet connection to do the restore, I always turn my internet connection off for security reasons, that's why iTunes didn't detect it.
But I'm facing another problem which I'll ask by opening a new thread.
