Default iPhone 3G, FW: 3.1.3, BB: 06.15.00 - how to unlock?

    Hi

Got iPhone 3G here on firmware 3.1.3 on baseband 06.15.00 jailbroken with redsn0w 0.9.4 (when jailbreaking I didn't click 'Already Pwned' although I think this phone has been previously jailbroken).

Basically, I have 'No Service' and tried to unlock the phone using Cydia, however, when I was adding the source Cydia just started saying 'Re-loading Data' and got stuck. I re-started the phone and now Cydia is stuck on 'Loading Data'.

Is there any way I can unlock my iPhone?

You need to install ultrasnow from cydia. First cydia run can take a long time (up to 30 minutes) before installing updates. Turn auto lock to never and just leave it on loading until it loads.

thanks simon. i tried that: cydia loaded the first time and i tried to install ultrasn0w but i kept getting errors about missing files (or something) mentioning 'repo' - not sure what that is. anyway, turned the phone off and on again and now when i start cydia it doesn't load but just hangs on 'loaded data'.

anyway, i've changed the auto lock to never and restarted the phone and opened cydia... it's on 'loading data' now so i'll let it run for 30 mins and see what happens!

Make sure to install any cydia updates after it finally finishes loading first. If cydia ever asks you to reboot dont press the button. Just press the home button and manually turn the phone off and on.

would you recommend upgrading the firmware? or is 3.1.3 good for the 3g with 06.15.00 baseband?

3.1.3 is the best firmware for iPhone 3G IMO.

+1. just wanted to agree to help you make your decision.

Any iOS 4 will bog down the iPhone 3G in performance. 4.1 and 4.2.1 seem to do better than 4.0.x but of course you'd want to disable multitasking and wallpaper for optimal performance. It's good to be on 4.1 or 4.2.1 if some apps you really like require it, but if not the best is 3.1.3 for the smoothest performance.
