Sure, part of the re-jailbreaking process installs brand new firmware. But it will erase the old and install new. Most times that is the only choice.
For the technically proficient users, the emergency ramdisk method provides a crude method to save the old before it is restored. But it's above most users capabilities.Last edited by Mes; 05-01-2011 at 10:28 AM.

^True. Simon also said it applies for iOS 3.x versions. If you load any 3.x iOS on an older device SHSH blobs are not needed.

RedSn0w didn't work, even though it uploaded a new RAMdisk, so I am going to go for a clean restore. So much for saving all my data

Teaches me to backup my data next time!
I can always just get the SHSH for 4.1 ( I just realized that the firmware I am running is 4.1, it just appears as 4.2.1 as I have multitasking and bakgrounds enabled through RedSn0w)
